GSW Manufacturer Overview
GSW manufactures gas and electric tank-style and tankless water heaters for the Canadian market. GSW is a subsidiary of A.O. Smith Corporation, which had worldwide sales of approximately $3 billion in 2017.
Corporate History
GSW, Inc. was founded in 1847 and is headquartered in Ontario, Canada. The company manufactures water heaters under the GSW and John Wood brands at its Fergus, Ontario plant. GSW purchased American Water Heaters and its brand Polaris in 2002. A.O. Smith acquired GSW in 2006, in part to acquire its retail business partnership as the sole supplier of water heaters to Lowe’s.
Product Lines
GSW’s line of electric water heaters comes in 40 and 60-gallon models and includes the SpaceSaver compact models. Gas water heaters include the Flame Guard and Flame Safe Safety System to prevent flammable vapor ignition. The GSW line of condensing gas water heaters includes a high efficiency model with an efficiency rating over 95% and capacities of 100,000 and 130,000 BTU/hr.
Warranty
GSW electric tank heaters are covered by a 6, 9 or 12-year tank and parts warranty, depending on the model. Gas heaters are covered by a 6 or 9-year tank and parts warranty, depending on the model. Each warranty includes a 1-year labor warranty. Residential tankless water heaters come with a limited 15-year heat exchanger warranty.
