"An expensivie, poor quality product"

We had a Goodman gas forced air furnace installed on 03/07/2007, model # gds80703ax. The unit has only been used for 3 full heating seasons (2008, 2009, 2010). The unit has consistent breakdowns, usually in the early morning hours (2 – 3 A.M.). The circuit board has been replaced 3 times. The inducer motor was replaced in 2010 along with the limit switch, flame sensor, and gas value. We will never own another Goodman furnace or product ever. It is an expensive, poorly made, cheap quality product and Goodman is actively ripping off consumers.

"Not so good!"

Bought the Goodman gds8 in 2004. Had to have the mother board replaced in 2007. Now it’s January 2011 and the furnace intermittently refuses to cycle and goes into lockout. Have had the service tec. here twice and can’t find anything wrong, but we still get charged for a service call. Tonights suppose to be 10 degrees. Wish now we hadn’t got a Goodman! It’s very frustrating knowing somethings wrong and not being able to get it fixed!!

Had goodman gds8 furnace installed last year. Propane fired 70000btu. Extremely noisy, old unit was silent in comparison. Failed this fall at start of season and took two service calls to get operational. If I had the option and still might replace it regardless of cost.

Other GDS8 Reviews

A post on finehomebuilding.com includes several opinions about the lack of quality among Goodmans furnaces. Among other comments, an HVAC technician states that he would choose another brand over Goodman, as he has repaired many Goodman furnaces over the years. However, another reviewer counters that he likes the easy access made possible by the open design and the accessibility of service parts.

A Goodman owner writes to hvac-talk.com about a problem with his 80 percent AFUE gas furnace: the unit always cycles twice before the burner lights. Experts responding to the query can't seem to agree on what is causing problems with the firing cycle, suggesting a sticking gas valve, a bad capacitator or damaged wiring, among numerous other potential faults.

Several posters defend Goodman furnaces on gardenweb.com. One review mentions that Goodman offers the same equipment as other companies at lower prices. These contractors recommend checking out the installers in the area; a proper installation of a Goodman furnace is better than a poor installation of a more expensive brand, they advise.

Another post on gardeweb.com mentions that Goodman sells equipment to anyone, not just licensed dealers. This results in many improper installations, and from this scenario Goodman gets a poor reputation. Several experts say the Goodman furnaces are similar to other brands; proper installation is the key.
