"Circuit Board Issue Root Cause"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I rarely used the the furnace and have been bearing the cold due to its mediocre quality. The technician repaired the circuit board after very little use. It worked intermittently after that, leaving me in the cold 95 percent of the time – the personal ceramic heater has been my friend. I recently debugged the unit and found the circuit board is bad, as many people complained. I root caused it due to the cheap thru-hole technology and bad manufacturing process that the connector has insufficient solder on its pins. That it became cracked and loosened after plugging in or usage. The best way to install the circuit board is to plug in the connectors first, then affix the board to the stand-offs to avoid pushing hard on the connectors to plug in after the board has already been mounted – basically a reverse process. So, check the big 12 or 15 pins connector on its back at the solder joints when the circuit board fails. The furnace is now running, but a little rough, not sure what-else or just some minor adjustment. Cross my finger on the Goodman.

"Do Not buy a Goodman Furnace"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Do not buy a Goodman furnace! Its a money pit! I have spent over $1,300.00 repairing my Goodman furnace in the past 5 years. The main control board has been replaced twice & now needs another new board. The poor design over heard the board after a couple of years. They know it but will not replace the board. Not a good product. Maybe they should change their name to Badman.

Installed on 2007. Had replaced under warranty the gas valve, Two years later the lighting sensor and now the control board. Stay away from this maker. Cheap-made, unreliable product.

"Faulty control board"

Brand new unit installed yesterday and board failed in 3 hours. No heat again. Warranty company and Heating tech trying to get new one from Goodman but they want old unit back before they send new one out (leaving me without heat for another week plus)

"Absolutely horrible furnace"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

We bought our home in Nov. 2009 and was told the furnace and central air were brand new. Well I can tell you that this system is horrible!!!! We have had to spend 300.00 to 500.00 every single year to get the furnace working. The mother board has burnt out 3 times. The Glow plug has gone out 4 times. The central air breaks down every year as well. Do not waste your money. We should have just had the whole thing replaced by now. So much for buying a home with a brand new system!

Other GDS8 Reviews

A post on includes several opinions about the lack of quality among Goodmans furnaces. Among other comments, an HVAC technician states that he would choose another brand over Goodman, as he has repaired many Goodman furnaces over the years. However, another reviewer counters that he likes the easy access made possible by the open design and the accessibility of service parts.

A Goodman owner writes to about a problem with his 80 percent AFUE gas furnace: the unit always cycles twice before the burner lights. Experts responding to the query can't seem to agree on what is causing problems with the firing cycle, suggesting a sticking gas valve, a bad capacitator or damaged wiring, among numerous other potential faults.

Several posters defend Goodman furnaces on One review mentions that Goodman offers the same equipment as other companies at lower prices. These contractors recommend checking out the installers in the area; a proper installation of a Goodman furnace is better than a poor installation of a more expensive brand, they advise.

Another post on mentions that Goodman sells equipment to anyone, not just licensed dealers. This results in many improper installations, and from this scenario Goodman gets a poor reputation. Several experts say the Goodman furnaces are similar to other brands; proper installation is the key.
