The Goodman SSX14 is a discontinued split system, single-stage air conditioner. The SSX14 had an efficiency of up to 15 SEER and a 1.5 to 5 ton capacity. The unit featured a Copeland scroll compressor and a compressor sound blanket to reduce noise levels. A three-bladed fan and louvered sound-control top also helped reduce sound levels. The unit was equipped with high- and low-pressure switches and a factory-installed filter drier to increase longevity. The condenser coil of the SSX14 was made of corrugated aluminum fins and rifled refrigeration-grade copper tubing. The louvered, heavy gauge galvanized steel cabinet protected the coil and was coated with a corrosion- and rust-resistant finish. The SSX16 used the environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant.
AC stopped working, blower motor gave out. Found out that these AC units have a blower motor equipped with an ECM module that controls the blower motor. Price on blower was one thousand dollars installed. Parts hard to find, no aftermarket seems to cross over, would not buy another Goodman ac unit ever, parts are expensive, hard to find.
I bought this unit in June of 2009 and it's now on the 5th compressor second inside coil and second outside coil, and additional $1100 in labor. Don't buy this model the worst Goodman product.
On 3/8/08 a Certified a/c contractor installed a Goodman 3.0 ton 14 seer Central a/c system, aepf426016 3.5,5.0 ton low leak air hndl, and ssx140361 14 seer ac, 3 ton comppressor. On 10/17/09 a Certified a/c contractor came out and replaced the leaking evap coil, on 10/26/10 Certified a/c contractor came out and the evap coil needs to be replaced again. I have spent $750.00 on warranty items. Goodman needs to reimburse me and many others for selling a faulty product. I had two Whirlpool units which lasted for 25 years before failure. Where is Goodman buying these below quality parts from and then selling them to us Americans.
In a comparison on gardenweb.com between the SSX14 and a similar Trane air conditioner, a professional chose the SSX14 for several reasons, including the coil and the compressor. A comparison of a Lennox model with the SSX14 on doityourself.com was evenly divided, with one consumer stating that he preferred the Lennox warranty.
