Goodman markets the GSX13 air conditioner as an efficient and reliable product. This three-phase 13 SEER split-system series has models ranging in capacity from 1.5 to 5 tons and producing anywhere from 18,000 to 60,000 BTU/H.
The Smartcoil technology used to enhance the GSX13’s heat transfer capability incorporates refrigeration grade, rifled, 5 mm copper tubing and aluminum fins that reportedly provide a larger-than-average surface area. The coil is protected by a steel louvered guard. The GSX13 has sound-reducing features such as a quiet condenser fan system and a louvered sound control top to provide reduced operating noise.
Goodman produces the GSX13 with a louvered cabinet made with heavy-gauge galvanized steel. The cabinet has a side panel that allows access to the controls and provides enough space for accessories. The liquid and suction line service valves are made of brass, and the GSX13 features R-410A chlorine-free refrigerant.
"This unit was the replacement unit after buying our house"

(2013) Was told by the HVAC repair company that my unit was bad and needed replacing. I had them replace the unit and it was cooling. Just 15 days after the warranty expired the reversing valve went and had to be replaced at $600 dollars. This lasted for another year. Early 2017 it went out again and was told the unit has a Very slow leak and would not last very long. Well, he was correct today July 4th, 2017 the unit stopped working again. I will not be buying another Goodman unit again.

First, I am totally unhappy with Park Mechanical who installed my unit in January of 2017, that is a long story in itself. So here it is June 18, 2017, second day of Sacramento's triple digit heatwave and my first time using my ac. I have had this new hvac unit only 5 months. The inside of my house is 92 degrees and warm air is blowing out of the ac. The tech was here and I have no freon in my unit and I have to wait until tomorrow for another tech to come and check for a leak and get a refill. The tech today said the unit comes from the factory with the freon and if that is the case…..GOODMAN Is a piece of shit in eyes. I am not a spring chicken and this heat is horrible. I have 4 dogs so it is not like I can just pack up and find a cool place to go. I am looking for an 800 and I will be calling Goodman tomorrow. On top of that, the tech today was probably trying to protect his butt but he kept saying "If the freon refill is covered under warranty." It better be covered under warranty.

I live in Texas and purchased a Goodman r22 heat pump in 2001 or 2002. It has been going ever sense in the hot Texas heat and the cold icy winters. The only thing that has gone out is a capacitor. Thats it!!! Hvac contractors don't like Goodman because they will sell retail and undercut their 400% markup. It's all about the installation. If you have a good install the unit will last. If you have a poor install the unit will go belly – up within a matter of months. You have to trust the installer. They can/will sabotage install to make a bad name for Goodman. I had hvac friend install mine and I paid him $700 for 6 hours labor. The job was done right and the unit has lasted. I am going to need another unit and I have been checking around for install prices. (My friend retired) Some of these contractors want up to $400 an hour labor to install. They don't have to provide anything. Just labor I have everything else. Just to install is anywhere from $2200 -$3400 for 7 or less hours of work.

Goodman units are junk. I need to replace mine again, this is the second time in four years. I will not be replacing it with Amana or Goodman. I will make sure all my friends know about my experience with them so they don't get stuck like I did.
When a homeowner asks the experts on doityourself.com to comment on the quality of the GSX13 being installed into his new home, the contractors are split. Several say that this unit offers reliable performance, so long as it is properly installed. Others, however, point out that it is a budget unit and homeowners will get the minimal efficiency for which they’re paying. On a different thread, several contractors agree that this unit does have the quiet performance that the manufacturer promises.
GSX13 Warranty
The GSX13 come with a 10-year parts limited warranty, although homeowner are required to register the unit within 60 days of installation in order for this warranty to apply. Consumers should discuss additional coverage options with their Goodman dealer.
