The Goodman GSC14 is a discontinued air conditioner with a cooling efficiency of up to 14 SEER. It featured a high-performance scroll compressor and a factory-installed in-line filter dryer. The condenser coil was constructed of corrugated aluminum fins and rifled refrigerator-grade copper tubing. An 850-RPM motor, a three-bladed fan and a louvered sound-control top provided quiet performance, while a heavy-gauge galvanized steel cabinet with painted finish protected the unit from the elements.
We have a problem with cracking in the discharge line of our 2006 unit, whereby freon is spraying out! We have had to spend over $600 to get the copper rewelded, the unit recharged and new freon put in, just to get another crack in a different spot 3 months later! So much for a 10 year warranty. This is going to cost us over $500 this second round…for a grand total of over $1,100–for a unit that is 6 years old. The labor and freon are very expensive. This is an internal problem, not an installation one. The unit shakes too much and causes cracking.
"32 Months Old"
My new home came with a gsc14 Goodman a/ unit in Jan 2008. It worked fine for 32 months. The contractor came out two weeks ago, said the coil was leaking. They don't make that coil anymore. Contractor installed the newly designed coil on Wednesday 9-1-10. On 9-4-10 no more cool air. Called a service technician on Labor Day Weekend (ouch). Technician says new coil is leaking. Added r-22 and say I need a new a/c unit. Don't know where to go from here.
In response to a question on gardenweb.com, the GSC14 was described as a good unit which runs fairly quiet. On diychatroom.com, a consumer trying to choose between the GSC14 and similar models by Lennox, Luxaire, and KeepRite received responses from several people saying that all are good models, with a couple of people saying that Goodman and Lennox are better units.
Product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The Goodman GSC14 air conditioner is covered by a 10-year limited parts warranty on all functional parts. The warranty does not cover labor costs.
