The Goodman split system GSC13 air conditioner is a 13 SEER unit. Models in this condenser series range from 1.5 to 5 tons, with BTU/H values that range from 18,000 to 53,000. This air conditioner series complies with safety standards and is ETL listed.
The GSC13’s condenser coil is made from corrugated aluminum fins and rifled copper tubing. For quiet operation, the three-bladed fan is covered by a louvered sound control top. A salt-sprayed powder paint finish coats the galvanized steel cabinet, and brass liquid and suction service valves with sweat connection are incorporated into the design. The GSC13 uses R-22 refrigerant and comes with an R-22 piston kit.
Had a Goodman installed on June 31, 2006 because it's "American made," 10 year warranty & no wait for parts because distributor is nearby. I should have flushed my money down the toilet instead. One week after installation, had to have compressor replaced. Two days later, had to have fan blades replaced. On May 09, 2009 strap broke, fan blade stuck, had to have motor & blades (again) replaced. On May 31, 2011 the capacitor went bad & had to be replaced. On March 27, 2012 the compressor failed again, now on my 3rd one. On January 15, 2015 & again on January 13, 2016, the first time I used the heat it failed to turn off unless I turned off the breaker. I walked in one day & it was 90 degrees in January. Had a new company to service it, replaced thermostat, didn't work, never found the cause. After 2 weeks it started working with the thermostat again, who knows why. In 2015 when I switched from heat to a/c, froze up due to leak they couldn't find w/the bubble test or by inspection. Took 2 lbs of refrigerant to get it going. In summer of 2016 it took 4.5 lbs of refrigerant. I'm having it replaced this year & I never want to hear the name Goodman again.
"Bad unit, worse customer service"
I had a new air conditioner installed 3 weeks ago. As of 3 days ago, it stopped working. The compressor is bad. So the warranty is not good to replace the unit, only repair, but they tell me they don't have the part in stock, so it will be a week before I can have it repaired. That is bad customer service and a bad product!
"Piece of junk"
When my unit was installed the outside coil was bad and had to be replaced which I felt was a bad sign. I was right. I wanted them to go ahead and put in a different complete outside unit but was told by the installer that they would only replace the coil, remember this was at the time of install of the new unit. Then the fan on the same outdoor unit went out and the compressor starting making a horrible noise at start up. The installer kept putting me off the entire winter months and now that I was responsible for labor according to the warranty he comes to check the unit and starts blaming it on all kinds of other things, so we paid him to put a warmer on the compressor. Of course that did not fix it and now he tells me to just wait until it goes out and then I can pay him to come and fix it. So I contacted the manufacturer, they would not help me, they just kept saying they can't control their contractors. So long story short do not purchase a Goodman if you want a good HVAC unit.
"Poor quality of equipment, unsatisfactory customer service"
Do not buy. I had this A/C unit and a furnace installed in July. The following spring the installer calls me to inform me that the A/C unit's points are being recalled- "they are leaking the coolant". I asked the repair man, "How often should an A/C unit need to be recharged with coolant?" He stated, "Never", unless there is a leak. So now, I am on my second full summer. The unit stops cooling again. This unit has had to be recharged with coolant and every other year since. The installer that performed the work never sent me the paperwork for the repairs (at the time of repairs it was covered under the installers warranty). Big mistake, no proof of repairs and he refused to accommodate me with the paperwork. The installer is washing his hands of the unit. I have called Goodman. No satisfaction at all, only poor customer service, actually the lady I spoke with (********, 877-254- 4729) was rude. I explained the situation and that the original installer stated "the unit has to have a very slow leak". She totally denied that a Goodman unit would have a leak, "They are made of quality". She put the problem on the installer. I commented that I may contact the Better Business Bureau. She laughed, said, "Go ahead, all you want is not to have to pay out of my pocket", that would be correct knowing it is valid. Last out of pocket recharge was $239.00. I will never put my comfort or investment into Goodman. Its time to contact BBB, hope they will help.
"GoodMan 3 Ton Air Conditioner review"
I love this Goodman 3 ton 13 SEER, I must say that I am very satisfied as a customer. I have owned this air conditioner for about 3 months now; due to the hot summer I thought it was time for a change. I am very glad that I bought this. I like how fast it will cool down the house compared to our old window air conditioner. I have found nothing so far that I dislike about this product. As of right now I have had zero problems on the hardware side of things. I would highly recommend you try this unit out. It's a very nice unit and I would highly recommend this to family and friends. All in all I am a very satisfied customer with Goodman as of now, and I will be using them again if I ever decide to upgrade my air conditioner . One last note to say about this product: if you are like me and you can't stand the hot summer days, then I would recommend that you give the Goodman air conditioner a shot because you will be very satisfied!
The reviewers at qualitysmith.com consider the Goodman GSC13 a low-end unit that doesn’t offer longevity in warranty coverage or much in energy cost savings, but is well-priced. As an R-22 operating product, purchasing this air conditioner is discouraged by this particular reviewer.
Contractors on hvac-talk.com agree the warranty on this entry level unit leaves something to be desired. A homeowner considering installing this unit in his new home is told by experts on this discussion forum that other entry-level units offer more features for a similar price and are well worth considering over the GSC13. Others point out that this system is on the noisy side.
The Goodman GSC13 comes with a 5-year limited parts warranty, which includes the compressor. The warranty applies to models manufactured after January 1, 2010.
