Reaching up to 18 SEER, the DSXC18 is Goodman’s highest efficiency air conditioning product line. This split-system series includes three models with cooling capacities ranging from 34,000 to 56,000 BTU/H. All models feature two-stage operation and are AHRI certified
The DSXC18 features a Copeland scroll compressor with a high-density foam compressor sound blanket, quiet condenser fan motor and sound control top design to help the unit achieve sound levels as low as 71 decibels. A wire fan discharge grille also contributes to the unit’s quiet operation.
The manufacturer also touts this series’ quick troubleshooting thanks to built-in diagnostics and its compatibility with the Goodman ComfortNet Communication system, which allows contractors to monitor and review data on service calls.
I have been installing HVAC equipment for over 20 years. Almost all brands have the same compressors, contactors, controls, etc. as every other brand. If any one is installed correctly, started correctly and serviced correctly, you will have many years of comfort. If your dealer and distributor are good, go with the Goodman. I was a Trane dealer for many years and the support on their equipment is the worst. I have cut back my Trane purchases by over 95% due to this fact.
"Awesome, worth the money!"
I love my Goodman air conditioning unit, I have owned it for about a year. Instead of buying a cheap unit that will conk out in a few years I decided to really make an investment, and the Goodman seems like a solid unit! I like that it is quiet but really good at keeping my fairly large place cool! The only problem is the sticker price was pretty high and it isn't very pretty. I paid around $1500 for it but they said it is supposed to last for a good long time. I haven't needed any repairs on it yet, so I like that as well. Hopefully, I wont have to shell out much money on repairs for quite a while. I would buy Goodman again, but hopefully my air conditioner will stick around for the length of time that I am in my house! So, get Goodman if you don't want to mess around with units that will break.
"Cools home quickly"
I have had very few problems with this unit. Since purchase several years ago, in 2010, due to my older central air unit breaking down on me, I decided to go with a Goodman through a recommendation from a friend. I have had only one repair and it was the thermostat. That was easily fixed and has been fine. Having a home in the valley can get very hot at times, into the 100's during the summer months. But it does a great job cooling down my home, quickly. In comparison to my older Amana unit, the Goodman took about half the time to get my home to the desired temperature. Although a little pricey for me, the price was well worth it and the energy savings I got from running my air conditioner during the summer months saved on the price of the air conditioner. I would buy it again if I had another home.
"Air Conditioning Review"
We have had our central air conditioning unit since we moved into our house in 2003 so its been about 8 years since we inherited the thing. For the most part there have been very few problems with it. It always does the job cooling the house relatively quickly when we decide to to turn it on which is all we really want from it. There are not too many negatives. One is that sometimes when we put it on and there is a distinct smell that comes from the vents but that is probably just from a lack of cleaning. We had to repair it once or twice throughout the years and it cost about one hundred and fifty dollars each time but only twice in eight years is pretty good. After each repair the air went back to normal. I would definitley buy the same brand again and would recommend Goodman brand central air conditioning units to anyone (friends, family, co-workers, etc).
I replaced a 16 year old Trane system that needed constant repair with the new Goodman gmvm96 Furnace, Goodman dsxc18 ac, and ComfortNet ctk01aa Thermostat approximately three months ago. I am very pleased with my system. I was able to get high end premium features at a fair price, not overpriced. The system is very quiet (I can talk on the phone standing next to the ac Unit). The two stage ac, variable furnace make my home noticeably more comfortable. I especially like the adjustable air circulating fan speed for summer use/balance. I was the second home in my area to get the new modulating furnace, my installer was very impressed with it and has installed several since based on his experience at my house. I would definitely buy this system again and recommend to friends. I have no reservations about choosing Goodman.
Although some contractors on consumer forms warn homeowners away from the Goodman brand, homeowners on consumer forms such as doityourself.com or gardenweb.com are attracted to the DSCX18 because of the good value of the unit and its long warranty. Despite the negative reviews around the Goodman name, contractors note that with quality installation this unit should provide consistent performance.
In addition, a professional review on qualitysmith.com notes that while the DSCX18 may not be the highest efficiency air conditioner on the market, it offers solid performance at a price well below competing models. However, reviews on topratedhvac.com suggest that despite the quality of this unit, it may not offer the same longevity as high-tier models and could fail prematurely if installed incorrectly.
Goodman provides the original owner with a 10-year parts limited warranty for all parts and lifetime limited warranty for the compressor. The unit also is equipped with a 10-year heat exchanger replacement. Registration within 60 days of installation is required to receive the full warranty.
