Japan-based Fujitsu General was established in 1936 as a manufacturer of radios, speakers and phonographs. At that time it was known as Yaou Shoten Ltd.; the name was changed to General Ltd. in 1966 and then to its current form in 1986 following the acquisition of Fujitsu Ltd. The company quickly expanded to include the manufacture of additional home appliances, although air conditioning units weren’t among them until the 1971 introduction of the “min min” cassette air conditioner. In 1976 the company launched a North American subsidiary, Teknika Electronics Co., and furthered its expansion worldwide.
Fujitsu General offers a variety of inverter (variable-speed) and constant (fixed-speed) room air conditioners to meet a range of consumer demands. Options include: wall-mounted, universal floor/ceiling, large ceiling, slim duct, compact cassette and cassette. Certain products are able to reach as high as 21.5 SEER for efficient cooling and many include remote controllers.
The company’s multi-zone air conditioners are available for either 2 to 4 or 2 to 8 zones. Units can be controlled independently as a way to ensure comfort in each zone.
Fujitsu General promotes on its website a green procurement policy that it says helps the company to ensure that its products have “the least harmful impact on the global environment.” This policy requires that components come from suppliers who are proactive in their own environmental policies and use no harmful substances in the production of their goods.
Fujitsu General America offers two warranties:
- 6 years on the compressor and 2 years on other parts
- 7 years on the compressor and 5 years on other parts
For either warranty, proof of purchase is required. Only products purchased from authorized dealers are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
