The Frigidaire FS4BI is an iQ Drive central air conditioner which features an inverter-driven rotary compressor that provides fully variable speed operation. The inverter system allows the unit to run at 118% capacity to provide rapid cooling. The FS4BI has an efficiency rating of up to 25.5 SEER, while a compressor sound blanket and swept-wing fan blade help provide operating sound levels as low as 59 decibels. The unit also features a maintenance free, permanently lubricated motor and a field-installed liquid line filter drier. The galvanized steel cabinet has a polyester urethane coat finish and is rated to withstand a 950 hour salt spray test. The unit’s iQ Drive controller allows the user complete control of the system, with features including system monitoring, maintenance reminders and programmable comfort schedule.
We purchased this top of the line system when our older unit had issues and were told how its variable speed and high seer numbers were the best new thing on the market. This was in 2009. We have had to have it serviced with downtime every year. Frigidaire has abandoned the system and sold the problems to Nordyne, now Nortech and they are busy finding ways to avoid the 10 year warranty Frigidaire promised, especially since no one makes the parts to fix these junkers. My installer also said he would extend his warranty to 10 years but since he did not file the paperwork (we had no idea any was needed other than our cashed check) and has a hard time keeping things together we are in the lurch. So my advice is avoid Frigidaire and their team of legal beagles for manufacturers who take their integrity and warranty obligations a bit more seriously.
"Central Air Conditioner installed by Grothouse Plumbing"
I have owned this air conditioning unit for about 6 years. I like where the placement of it is outside of my house, how well the controls work, how easily it cools down my house and how fast. I can't say I really dislike much about it, maybe that it has stopped working once and it was very hot for a couple of days. But having it for six years and it only giving me a problem once, and I wouldn't call it even really a problem. I can't remember exactly what was wrong with it that had to be prepared but it was a ten minute job, the worker was in and out right away and it was back to cooling the house off. I would definitely buy this brand again and recommend it to a friend. This is my first experience with central air also, because in my old apartment we had window air conditioners. Growing up we also had window ones, too, which worked just fine but having central seems to just be so much easier. Not having to reinstall every single year.
