Fedders, today known as Airwell-Fedders North America Inc., makes residential and commercial window and wall air conditioners and portable air conditioners, heat pumps, and household appliances. Fedders is a subsidiary of Airwell Group and has its North America headquarters in Houston. Airwell is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tel Aviv-based Elco Holding Ltd., which saw 2017 revenues of approximately $2.6 billion.
Fedders was founded in 1896 by Theodore Fedder as a producer of milk cans, bread pans and kerosene tanks and began manufacturing air conditioners in 1947. Fedders has acquired several companies in the heating and cooling industry, including Climatrol in 1970, Airtemp in 1976 and Addison Products in 2004.
In 2008, Fedders was acquired by the Airwell Group, headquartered in Paris and itself a subsidiary of Elco Holding Ltd. Today Fedders is a part of Elco’s Electra Consumer Products division.
Fedders’s line of air conditioning products includes wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted and floor-standing units . Fedders manufactures inverter split, non-inverter split, and multi variable inverter split units, as well as an air to water heat pump.
Although there are some variations between the warranties of different Fedder products, customers can expect a limited 1-year parts and labor warranty on most appliances. This means that consumers can choose between repair and replacement of any parts that are defective due to material or workmanship. The unit must be registered to receive full warranty benefits.
