The Empyre Pro Series is a discontinued wood furnace with up to 90% efficiency. It used gasification technology and was designed for indoor and outdoor installation. It had a heat output of up to 330,000 BTU/hr. with a water capacity of up to 115 gallons. An extra large loading door made loading the unit easy, and a full length exhaust curtain kept combustion gases from escaping when the door was opened. The unit was constructed of solid steel, with a seamless roof which helped prevent rust and corrosion.
"Take care of your furnace and it will take care of you"
We have had this Pro Fab Empyre Pro Series 200 since 2009 and we love it! Just wish the company had not gone out of business! We have always followed the directions of using seasoned wood and have used 27" wood. Have replaced the lower motor a couple of times (think they draw moisture during the warm months. Recalled the door gasket once and the fire bricks once. There is absolutely no smoke from this furnace unless there is a breach (by using too short of wood) or it needs to be cleaned.
Innumerable holes caused by rust in the firebox, welded and repaired years after years… After 8 years of this, the boiler is only good for scrap now.
"Customer service is terrible"
Fourth year using this boiler. Empyre Pro 200 turned out to be a revamped Aspen 175. Year three the door ripped where the damper attaches on top of door, Pro Fab would not do anything to help with repair. Was told I could purchase a new door for $500. I made a bushing and welded it in myself. The customer service department was no help at all. Cleaning the unit is a real chore as well. Hope I do not need any warranty service, it looks like after you purchase the unit you are on your own. I would not recommend this company due to the lack of support. I spent $11,000 for an installed boiler and there is no support after the sale. I can do my own service but that's not the point.
"What a piece of junk! Terrible customer service!"
Wow, where to begin. My Pro 200 is 4 years old and I have replaced the blower motor bearings 4 times, this year I bought a back up blower motor at $130. The new motor is welded, I will not be able to replace the motor bearings when they go bad so it will be one time use. Cleaning this thing is a pain and very dirty and time consuming. I use disposable coveralls, a dust mask, safety glasses, and vacuum cleaner. This needs to be cleaned once a month or more. I ordered a tool for cleaning boiler tubes 4 months ago. It showed up the first time and it was broke. After 2 emails with pictures and 5 phone calls, I still don't have a new cleaning tool or my money back. The fire brick on my door is broken, but don't know if I want to spend the money on a new door, I might try and fix it myself. Today this thing put me over the edge. When I was cleaning the boiler today I noticed a leak, the hinge side of the door flange corroded through and is leaking glycol into the fire box. I had to drain the boiler down. I'm sure it's done for the year. I have not contacted ProFab yet, but I'm not expecting good results. I might cut my loss at $8500 for the boiler and another $250 in spare parts to look at a different brand. I would run away from any ProFab product!
This 400 unit is only 3 years old. It was bought for the purpose and efficiency with the reburn. The cleaning tools and all the pipes are a pain. It has to be dry wood and no garbage wood. The circuit board has gone now 3 times, 2 door seals, a blower fan motor and it goes out all on its own on high temperature. For the money spent on this unit I will never again purchase this unit or manufacturer. Getting support is tough because even the local area rep doesn't want to deal with it. Limited 10 year warranty my ass. Damn right it's limited – it doesn't have a warranty. Feel abused and ripped off for purchasing this unit. Update: March 20, 2017 The pro fab 400 has been a pile of crap from day 1. We are in our 4th season and managed to go through 3 circuit boards due to blowing snow getting into the board, 2 blower fans, 1 thermal disc, 3 door seals a just this season the door latches have let go and a hole in the weld joint from t manufacture. The company doesn't exist anymore and the wholesale place where it was purchased won't offer and help. This piece of crap should be painted yellow. Even the small claims we had from beginning the local "rep" was ignorant and wasn't too interested in helping. Stay away from these units. They are only good for a boat anchor.
