"Second heat exchanger failed"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

In 2008 we had a Dunkirk Quantum 90-100 installed. It was said to be a reliable unit, however after only 6 years the heat exchanger failed by a crack in the casting. Dunkirk replaced it with no charge on the component but we still have to pay for installation which was more than $500 in labor. The new casting was said to be coming from a new foundry supplier and the problem was fixed with the new one. It was installed in March 2015 and failed again in March 2016. The problem now is internal and the glycol fluid leaks inside and comes out the condensate drain, faulty again. We wondered where some fluid loss was coming from, it was inside the unit. If you buy a Dunkirk make sure you have a good backup system. It's hard to believe that this can happen and after reading the other reviews it's clear that this system is a joke. Any advantages in a high efficiency unit you will pay dearly for in repairs. Be cautious and look for another solution.

"Cracked block"

I purchased through Sears. Same as other reviews. The boiler was checked by a Sears contractor each year but they never detected the failing block which had several cracks and leaked water. I am now fighting with Sears support.

"Dunkirk boiler nightmare"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I purchased this boiler in 2012. It worked fine throughout the mild winter we had that year. The following year, and every winter including this one, it seems to just stop working. I've spent tons of money for people to repair it. In fact, they came out 3 times in 2 days and told me they didn't want to deal with it anymore. I am very upset about this purchase and hope no one else makes the same mistake that I did. I've spent too many cold night without heat.

"Take notice before you purchase"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I am a home improvement contractor. I work closely with other trades. When it came time to put an addition on my own residence, I sat down with my plumber and with budget and efficiency in mind went with this brand. It's been 9 years now and every season igniter and burner replaced, with a service charge on top of the parts. Now another problem with valves and other parts. Very sarcastic sales rep on the phone saying it's due to plumbing install. Own up to it! It is a inferior product. I go to a lot of homes every year and will never recommend this boiler. Read the reviews before you choose!!

We had our Dunkirk installed when we built our new building. Last year in the middle of January, the heat exchanger started leaking in the back. I called the installer and he said he would do what ever it would take to get it repaired or replaced. Dunkirk was called with this reply, "have the installer pull it out, send it to the distributor and they will send it to Dunkirk for review." They, in their sole judgement will check to see if the pH was correct in the fluid and make a determination if it was a manufacturers defect. If it was, they would replace the unit, send it to the distributor, then to the installer who would put it back in. If it was not defective it was $1700 for the exchanger. Guess what happened. None of the above because going three weeks with out heat would have frozen my bottom. I replaced the boiler with another brand that actually has customer service. Dunkirk is a brand I would avoid at all cost. So much for a ten year warranty. Zero is more like it.
