The discontinued Ducane Fits-All 80 gas furnace has 2-stage heating and a variable speed motor that enables it to reach up to 80 percent AFUE. The units, first introduced in 2006, range from 50,000 to 125,000 BTU/H in heating capacity and 1.5 to 5 tons in cooling capacity. It can be used for upward, downward and horizontal applications, and can vent horizontally or vertically. This model of Ducane gas furnace operates with Honeywell Controls Smart Valve System to further ensure that no heat is unnecessarily produced and no gas is wasted on maintaining a continuous pilot light.
The manufacturer says that the design of the Ducane Fits-All 80 gas furnace protects the unit from corrosion, as it is produced with a pre-painted cabinet made of heavy-gauge material. The heat exchanger is made with crimped aluminized steel intended to help it remain clean, free of leaks and tightly sealed for increased longevity and reliability.
The unit is equipped with a 3-speed PSC blower motor, and each blower wheel is individually balanced to aid in noise reduction. The blower’s variable speed operates with a gradual acceleration and deceleration for quiet operation. Additionally, the unit uses whisper burners and Honeywell slow-opening Smart Valves. It is also protected with a 5-amp fused circuit and has two-wire twinning.
The Ducane Fits-All 80 can be converted to propane with a common LP kit and can be equipped with an electric air cleaner and humidifier.
It appears that these furnaces are crap. My current one is 61 years old and the only reason I’m replacing it is that the heat exchange box is rusting through. I’ll be sure to keep clear of these.
"14th winter and counting…"
My Ducane furnace/AC was installed in Fall 2005. I haven’t been very diligent about maintaining it (with the exception of filter changes). It’s very dependable and quiet. I’ve never had an issue (until last week). The control board failed. The repair quote was $486 (ouch). The price to buy online was $90. I read a few customer stories, and, with no prior experience, decided to try replacing the board. The replacement is slightly different from the original, but amazingly easy to install. I was done in 40 minutes… Heat restored in time to stay warm in this latest Nor’easter! I would not hesitate to buy another Ducane system.
"AT MY BREAKING POINT"
This furnace has caused me so many problems I get upset thinking about it. First, after a couple months of use, the pressure switch goes out every 2 months of use. I’ve had this furnace 4 years and it never stops causing us problems. Finally this year, I bought 2 kerosene heaters to have as back-up for when the pressure switch goes out, and sure enough it did. I’ve decided not to fix it this year. So now my freshly painted walls in my house are covered with kerosene soot. I should’ve spent more on a better furnace.
I have been in hvac business 35+ years and installed and serviced all brands. I have installed over 500 Ducane furnaces and have never had manufacturer problem with any. Problems 90 percent of time are installer errors.
"92% efficient 2 -stage variable speed blower"
I bought Ducane 2 stage furnace in 2005, it has a variable speed blower and 92% efficient, I keep air filters clean and I never had a service issue. The draft inducer motor is a little noisy when it comes on but the furnace performs properly.
In the Consumers Digest September/October 2008 issue, Ducane was named as a best buy furnace. Online HVAC discussion boards include comments from technicians who note that they do not receive many calls about Ducane products while under warranty. While there are few online reviews about the Fits-All 80, many technicians agree that the quality of the installation is most important when deciding upon new HVAC equipment.
