The Colman Echelon is an energy efficient heat pump with an efficiency rating ranging from 16 to 18 SEER and up to 10.0 HSPF. The Echelon has a "warm to touch" feature which helps prevent cold start-up drafts, and the unit's unique fan guard design ensures quiet operation. The environmentally-friendly refrigerant R-410A is used on all models. The Echelon carries the Energy Star logo, and the HC8B has been named an Energy Star Most Efficient 2015 product.
I would NEVER buy this system again.
Installed in 2017 and have had major failures every fall since. Each fall it takes three weeks to two months to get it repaired, this year longer and the electric back up heat is our responsibility says the Company.. This year the local dealer doesn't even know where or when the parts are going to be available for the repair. Totally frustrated because I can't talk to Coleman or Johnson Controls about the repair, just the local dealer. DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY FROM JOHNSON CONTROLS.

"Warning: Do Not Buy!"
An expensive heating system that doesn't work. Installed 15 months ago and has already failed twice. Coleman doesn't keep repair parts in stock so they take 14 working days to order. Meanwhile, the furnace runs 24-7 trying to maintain a temperature of 64 degrees. Electric bill skyrockets. Takes about a month from initial call to the heating company until the repair is made. Paid $7,400 for a furnace that works less than the old one. If you read this and then buy a Coleman system, you are a fool. We're stuck with ongoing repair bills, high electric bills, lack of adequate heat and junk equipment that doesn't work about 15% of the time. We do not recommend Coleman heating systems!
"DON'T BUY COLEMAN Echelon series 'JUNK"
Echelon heat pump & furnace was installed in 2010 by Aztec air conditioning from Grandview, WA. In 7 years, we have had more than a dozen service calls, control Board was replaced, Fan motor, and so many other things that I just had it, this unit is horrible. I highly recommend staying away from Coleman.
"Coleman heat pump and furnace, great Install"
The equipment is well built and operates efficiently in terms of gas use for the back up furnace and electricity for the heat pump. It is quiet and delivers improved air circulation compared to my old system. The upstairs temperature now more closely matches the temperature downstairs. Prior to this installation the upstairs was 3-4 degrees different than the downstairs. Now the difference is 0-2 degrees. The time to change temperature in the house is faster than with my old system. From temperature set range min/max to target temperature takes 10 minutes to heat and 20 minutes to cool. The only problem we had with the installation was the outside temperature sensor. The wire run was too long for a thermostat wire, so the contractor installed a wireless system with works well. So far, we are very happy with the new heat pump and back up gas furnace.
"I give my heat pump 5 stars"
My heat pump was installed just three short months ago, but I'm already in love. This heat pump has saved me over $50 per month in heating costs. I control the heat pump through a WiFi enabled thermostat, and it works flawlessly. What is so strange to me is that the air feels cool coming from the vents, but the home stays warm. I only have one small complaint about my heat pump, and that is the time it takes to raise the temperature in the house. If I leave, I set my unit on "away", meaning my heat pump will not turn on until the temperature in the house is 68 degrees. When I return home, I turn my thermostat to the "home" function. When I am home, I like the temperature to be around 72 degrees. For my heat pump to heat the home those 4 degrees, it takes around an hour or more. If I set it to electric heat, my home is heated much quicker. This is just a small complaint, but I can live with the time it takes to heat the home with the heat pump if it saves me money monthly. I have suggested the heat pump to all of my friends and family that are looking to upgrade from the standard heat strip units. Two of them have already upgraded, and they are absolutely in love. If given the option, I would definitely purchase this brand again as I haven't had a single issue with it thus far.
When asked by a consumer to choose between a Coleman LX series or the Coleman Echelon, most who commented on hvac-talk.com chose the Echelon. Comments on gardenweb.com describe the similarities between the York Affinity and the Echelon, calling them internally identical.
The Coleman Echelon comes with a standard 10-year warranty on parts and the compressor. The unit must be registered online within 90 days of installation, otherwise the parts warranty reverts to a 5-year limited parts warranty. Other warranty plans can be purchased separately.
