Coleman LX Furnace Overview

Coleman’s LX series of gas furnaces is made up of several models of single- and two-stage models available with AFUE ratings ranging from 80 to 97 percent. These furnaces are designed with tubular aluminized steel heat exchangers. Coleman claims this series will reduce home energy costs at a reasonable price.

Single-stage models reportedly are quiet and are equipped with a high efficiency air circulating fan motor. The 80-percent AFUE furnaces also are available with LoNox-compliant models.

Two-stage LX furnaces are designed to be very quiet, and some of the higher AFUE models are Energy Star-qualified. They come with an optional high-efficiency, variable-speed ECM fan motor that runs for longer than typical time periods, creating more uniform temperatures throughout the home than a single-speed motor. Longer fan operation also is said to improve air quality, due to the longer periods of air filtration, and since there are few starts and stops it produces minimal noise. In addition, these models include EcoTrak technology that allows installers to program operating cycles to best accommodate specific climate zones.

Coleman LX Furnace Reviews

"Excellent furnace"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

The furnace and smart thermostat has been a very satisfactory purchase. In our last home we had a Coleman furnace that was 47 years old and had very few problems. Still working at this time, that is why we love the Coleman products. The contractor was very professional and listened to what we wanted and worked it into our budget. The service was excellent, they were there when they said they would be and cleaned up after themselves like they were not even here. In fact, they left it cleaner than they found the place.

"Coleman furnace"

Very Satisfied

Very satisfied with my Coleman LP furnace. The furnace is extremely efficient compared to the 20-year-old Carrier unit it replaced. It was very competitively priced and performs just as well or better than similar units by other manufacturers. The only downside is the unit is louder than others but it makes up for it in all other areas.

"Very Unsatisfied!!!!"

Furnace installed approximately two years ago. Variable speed blower motor burnt up thermistor on ecm in the middle of winter. This is a known problem which is well documented on the internet, as its fix. The replacement motor is $750-$1200 depending on who you call. Mine is under warranty, but have been waiting approximately two weeks now to receive the replacement part. Johnson Controls builds this furnace and the warranty phone number rings into Johnson Controls. Fool me once…. Next time I am staying away from this brand.

"Leaking furnace, very unhappy!"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I have a Coleman furnace that leaks water when running. I have model number tm9v080b12mp11a. The leak appears to be coming from the condensate pan, which means there may be a crack at the bottom somewhere. The leak has been ongoing for approaching a year, and my metal components are all rusted out! This is a brand new furnace too. Needless to say, I’m unhappy about Coleman furnaces! It is made by Johnson Controls, and is basically the same as York.

Other LX Reviews

Online comments about the Coleman LX furnace series are favorable overall, although contractors on are quick to emphasize the importance of the quality of the installation over the brand of this product. Contractors commenting on the quality of this unit in response to a homeowner question say these furnaces are considered mid-tier products from the same manufacturer as York and Luxaire units. Homeowners in cooler climates will see more energy cost savings from an LX furnace than those in a warmer climate, according to these experts.
