What are the 10 Best Boilers?

Corporate History

The John C. Cleaver Co. was founded in 1929. Cleaver-Brooks was founded in 1931 to pursue the concept of the packaged boiler. A packaged boiler is a boiler in which all of the components are engineered and assembled by the same manufacturer. In theory, this eliminates scenarios where the customer is responsible to assemble parts from multiple suppliers into a single system. It also eliminates situations where the customer must negotiate between different vendors in an attempt to find compatible parts when a subsystem fails.

In the 1960s, Cleaver-Brooks became known as Aqua-Chem. In 2006 Aqua-Chem sold its Water Technology division, which accounted for about 15 percent of its revenue, to Altus Capital Partners. The remaining company reverted back to the Cleaver-Brooks name. Cleaver Brooks was acquired by Harbour Group in 2012. Cleaver-Brooks currently employs around 1,000 people at 10 facilities around the world.

Product Lines

Cleaver-Brooks product lines include waste heat boilers, heat recovery steam generators and other products for large-scale heating needs. The company works to create custom heating solutions intended to help customers keep emissions and fuel costs low.

For heating buildings, Cleaver-Brooks manufactures firetube (also known as Scotch Marine), watertube and electric boilers. Among its products are the ClearFire-LC fully condensing hydronic boiler, which features up to 98 percent efficiency and up to 12,000 MBTU; the FLX flexible watertube boiler, which reaches up to 25 MMBTU and can be powered by natural gas, light oil or propane; and the ClearFire-H, a horizontal steam boiler with low emissions and a modulating burner for fuel efficiency. Other options available with the company’s products include features such as touch screen controls; easily removable access panels for simple maintenance; and fully integrated systems that allow for the installation of a single custom solution rather than multiple standard units.

Cleaver-Brooks boilers are covered by a limited parts warranty of 1 year from start-up or 18 months from shipment.
