The Carrier 25HNA Infinity heat pump series is available in one- or two-stage units. As a two-stage unit, operation mostly occurs in the lower stage for cost savings. The Infinity heat pump series is designed to partner with the Infinity series furnace enabling the utilization of hybrid heat. Carrier's hybrid heat involves a duel-fuel system in which the system optimizes the efficiencies of fuel sources by switching between electricity and gas. With up to 19 SEER and a 9.5 HSPF heating efficiency, the Carrier 25HNA Infinity series has earned the Energy Star rating.
To minimize noise production during operation while maintaining maximum air flow, the Infinity series employs the Silencer System II, which includes forward swept fan blades among other noise reduction features. The unit produces 69 dB during operation, which is about as loud as the average vacuum cleaner.
The 25HNA utilizes the Infinity Control System for temperature programming and enhanced diagnostics for easy repair. The unit is manufactured with a steel louver coil guard and is made of heavy-gauge galvanized steel for weather protection and durability. The exterior is coated with a baked-on powder coat paint.
"Horrible unit, horrible service. Carrier does not stand behind their products."
I purchased the expensive Infinity because the dealer told me it would save money over time. It never worked properly, ran all the time. My house did not cool down on hot days. The compressor went out after 3 years and they did not want to replace it. I fought with Carrier, their distributor, and dealer. I tried to tell them that I had a lemon and just wanted a different unit (I would have taken a less expensive one). They finally put in a new compressor but it went out in 2 years. Now they have a dealer service advisory on the unit and changed it out for $1500. So, they sell you total crap for a really high price and refuse to service it. Unbelievable! Save yourself, do not do business with Carrier!
Carrier will not fix their (Bristol) compressor problems. Unit is five years old and compressor is shot. $375 for a band aid or $775 for a new outside unit. They know they sold bad units and still passing the cost on to the customer. Do not buy a Carrier!
"VERY unhappy customer"
Purchased heat pump and furnace November 2006. I have had to replace 4 motherboards at $350.00 labor each, two compressors at $950.00 labor each, the A coil and valve at 4850.00 labor, the defrost heaters, and have had to pay for recharge separately twice when installing the compressors. I was told I had a 10 year warranty but found out it was only for parts. Carrier will not do any thing to help even though they acknowledge that they have defective parts. Today I either need to replace the compressor again knowing that 8 months up the road I will probably have to face this again or I will need to have an all new heating and air system installed.
"A bad product"
Compressor failed at 4.5 years. Failed again a month later. Thermistors have failed. The result is that I am using emergency heat quite a bit and the bills are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I would not recommend this product.
"Carrier Not Worth It"
Unit is 6 years old. Broke first year. Needed new mother board, broke again – needed new compressor. Broke again – another new compressor. Guess what? Broke again – another new compressor. NOTHING BUT HEADACHES AND LOTS OF BILLS. WOULD NEVER buy another one.
Comments on other internet review forums are mixed regarding the Infinity series and Carrier products in general. Some sites consider infinity heat pumps to be very reliable and of high quality. However, there are numerous complaints on consumeraffairs.com that include issues ranging from costly defects with the Infinitys compressor to difficulty with assistance provided by Carrier customer service.
