"Carrier ICS works fine…"

I had the Carrier ICS gas furnace installed in my home 2 years ago. So far, I haven’t had any problems. Seems reliable. However, seems like the electric bill is high with this unit. However, the gas bill is good. Must keep it on 72 at least, to keep from freezing. 73 seems ideal. Pay about $650 per year in gas bill. When the power goes out, so does the furnace cause the Infinity thermostat has to be reset again. That’s the only downside. Overall, I am satisfied.

Replaced what might have been a perfectly fine 20+ year old furnace with this “top of the line” model from carrier. We were off on a winter-long trip and wanted to be sure the house would be safe. The furnace failed three times that fall before our departure. Now year 3 and its the inducer motor. What a piece of unreliable crap. Seems this is a fairly common $600 problem. And this furnace has barely been used over the three winters as we have been traveling. Services have been friendly and on time.

I had a complete furnace (58MVC) A/C (24PA7), humidifier and integrated thermostat installed in Oct of 2010. It is now Feb 2011 and all is well. I replaced a furnace that came with my house 31 years ago and an A/C from 19 years ago. The efficiency is GREAT. The old furnace was like standing next to a lawn mower when it was running. I have a computer desk and phone set up next to the new furnace and I can talk on the phone even when the furnace is on high speed. I have a large ranch style home that should have more attic insulation installed, but the furnace still runs on low speed and keeps us at 70 degrees even with a wind chill of zero or below. I have noticed some noise on start up of the blower and will get that check into. Sounds like is is out of balance, but does not happen all the time. The humidifier seems to pass more water through than I would like and I need to get that checked out too or study the book a bit more. This unit is such a step up from what we had it is like moving up from an old Ford Pinto to a Shelby Mustang. Then with a $1,500 tax credit, $1050 Carrier rebate and a State and utility rebate of $800 and a 10 year parts AND labor agreement I love it.

I HAD A CARRIER MODEL# 58MVCO80-F-1-14 INSTALLED IN MY HOUSE IN NOVEMBER OF 2010. I WAS HAVING TROUBLES WITH THE INDUCTOR MOTOR MAKING NOSIE ON RAMP UP AND DOWN. MY INSTALLER PUT SEVERAL IN BEFORE HE FOUND THAT THE MOTOR SUPPORT WASHERS WERE INSTALLED INPROPERLY. THE INSTALLER PUTS THE INDUCER MOTOR ON THE FURNACE. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD THROW THAT OUT FOR ANYONE THAT HAS THERE FURNACE IN AS A DOWN FLOW AND HAVING THAT PROBLEM. I HAD TO PUT UP WAS THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. EVERYTHING ELSE IS WORKING GOOD.

Question

What is the cost of a replacement furnace ECM module?

Answer

On 2016-04-21 Gary wrote:

This can be a very expensive repair, often in excess of $1000. This price can depend on if only the module, needs to be replaced, or if the problem is with the entire motor. A module replacement is usually a couple hundred dollars. But if it’s the motor, again, it could be over $1000.

A licensed heating professional will be able to tell you what needs to be replaced and give you an accurate price.
