The Carrier Performance 17 is a two-stage central air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 17 SEER. The two-stage scroll compressor is protected by high and low pressure switches, along with a filter drier which prevents damage from moisture and contaminants. All sizes of the Performance 17 are Energy Star qualified, with sound levels as low as 72 decibels. Compressor enhanced dehumidification is increased when the Performance 17 is combined with the Performance Edge relative humidity thermostat. A heavy-gauge galvanized steel louvered cabinet features a baked-on powder paint finish for protection against weather damage and corrosion.
We needed a new 2 ton A/C because the old one died. We were talked into getting a 5 ton to replace the dead unit and the 3 ton. We were convinced the 5 ton could be zoned like the 2 and 3 ton units. Well from day one the house would be muggy and too hot in the afternoon and we had the service crew out 4 times in two weeks. Finally they told us to keep the house cool. We had to keep all zones on the same temperature so no air intakes would be taking in hot air that could not be cooled properly. If anyone tells you a large Carrier unit can be zoned they are misleading you.
"Total disgust with product"
First of all, let me say that I have never written a review before. However, this product has prompted me to express my opinion. We had this unit installed in our house and from day one I wondered why it wasn't cooling like I thought it should and like they told me it would. Now, 1 year and 4 days after installation, the system has quit working altogether. We paid $9,500 for this unit and installation. I will never buy a Carrier product again. Also, a little earlier today, I filled out the comment section on Carrier's website, and after I was finished, it wouldn't let me submit it. Boy, that's good customer service! They apparently can't handle the truth. They ought to be embarrassed for selling a product like this. Avoid them at all cost.
"Positive review of Carrier HVAC unit"
We have lived in our house for approximately 20 years and like many things that come with home ownership, things need to be replaced over time. In the summer of 2008 I came home from work on a fairly hot day and the air conditioning was not working. I did a general inspection of the old unit and it was running but there was no cold air being produced. I called the local HVAC guy that I use every year to service the unit and after a general diagnostic, he determined that there were multiple problems and it would be most cost effective to replace the unit based on its age. I replaced it with the Carrier and I got a pretty good deal on it. What I liked about this unit initially was the price and the ratings. The unit has operated flawlessly since 2008 and I think I have only had to replace one fuse in that time frame. If there was one thing that I did not like about it is that there are more efficient units being manufactured today, but at the time it had a good efficiency rating. It has never had to be repaired or have any replacement parts added to it. I would buy another Carrier and I would recommend that brand to a friend based on the experience I have had.
"Carrier Performance series installed by Sansone"
Worst ever!!!! Sansone took out my Trane that was not cooling quickly after 10 years and replaced it with a $7,000 tag for indoor and outdoor. Takes 5 hours to get from 75 degrees to 70 degrees at night!!!!! WORST MISTAKE EVER TO TRUST THESE PPL!!!!! NOW THEY TELL ME IT'S NOT DESIGNED FOR TO GO TO 70 THIS TIME OF THE YEAR!
