The Carrier Infinity 21 is a two-stage split-system central air conditioner, which can reach efficiencies of up to 21 SEER when paired with the right air handler or furnace.
Noisy vs Quiet
The Infinity 21 can be extremely quiet, with Carrier stating in the Spring of 2014 that they produce as few as 65 decibels of sound. However, Carrier’s product data sheet from 2009 says that they generate 72 decibels, so if noise is important to you, you may want to make sure that you’re getting the latest models in the series. The Infinity 21 is part of the Carrier Infinity series.
$25K spent on a Carrier Infinity furnace and A/C unit (also zones) upgraded from a much smaller and less-efficient A/C and furnace. From the first warm day it couldn't keep my home cool even though our far- smaller previous A/C did just fine. When we set this one at 74 and it will be 80 in our home. Installer has been out 9 times making various adjustments but nothing works. Never feels like there is much air flow coming out of the vents. Oh and "Auto" mode is a joke. It can never, ever switch from heating on cool nights to A/C when it warms up during the day. Don't even try. Installer even told me it can take "hours" to switch from heating to A/C, so in the Ohio spring when it can be in the low 40's at night and 80's during the day, this thing is useless. Home will be freezing at night and then hot during the day. Even on a day like today when it is 75 outside the A/C cannot cool the inside to 74. Installer had a one-year money back guarantee and it's been a year and I am getting my money back.
"Carrier Infinity Series Review"
We have been in our current apartment for 9 months now. I have lived in apartments that used AC units with slightly higher SEER levels, but the Carrier Infinity Series is still one of the most energy-efficient central air conditioning systems available. My bill is consistently lower thanks to the many advanced technologies such as a two-stage compressor and Puron refrigerant. This makes our home cool and less humid. This unit is super quiet and most of the time I don't even notice that it is on. It is also one of the few models to make the Energy Star Most Efficient list, even though there are some units out there that offer longer warranties. This really doesn't matter to me as a renter, because I'm not really responsible for the unit upkeep. Overall, the Carrier Infinity Series is an excellent option to stay cool and keep money in my wallet, which is a major plus with twin toddlers running around the house.
"Decent central air conditioner for an apartment building"
I don't own this air conditioner, it's actually a part of my apartment building. It's nice and quiet and it cools down my apartment really quick! The only thing that I don't like about it is that once it's turned on, it gives off a slight metallic smell, which eventually dissipates when it runs for an amount of time. I told the property manager about it, but they can't seem to do anything about it. My apartment complex replaced this system last year I believe, because the last one was struck by lightning. But we do have hot summers here in Pennsylvania, and it works like a charm! I highly recommend this air conditioner for anyone who is looking to install it in their home!
"The Most Energy Efficent for the Money."
Owned this for just about 9 months. This is for sure the most energy efficient for the price. I was impressed that it has a two stage compressor and most of all is very, very quiet!
"Condenser coil failed after 4.5 years. Carrier unconcerned, customer reps rude."
After 4.5 years, the condenser coil leaked. Neighbors with the same model and the same time of install have had similar problems. Although parts are under warranty, labor is costly for a replacement. When I called Carrier, the only response was they knew of no problems and there are no recalls. There is more information from other buyers to be found on the web. I have emailed and written Carrier, but to date I have no response.
The Infinity 21 is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.
