The Carrier Infinity 18 is a discontinued high efficiency air conditioner. Offering up to 18 SEER when paired with compatible components, this series used Puron refrigerant and was available in 2- to 5-ton models.
Features of the 38TDB included a 2-speed compressor, the company’s proprietary “Silencer System” to maintain quiet operation as low as 69 decibels, and an on-board self-diagnostic system for quick maintenance. A copper tube aluminum fin coil, high and low pressure switches, and liquid line filter drier were additional components of this series.
The exterior of the unit was protected with Carrier’s WeatherArmor System, including a condenser grille guard, powder paint finish, and ceramic-coated cabinet screws. Optional accessories such as a low-pressure and high-pressure switch kit were also available. The Infinity 18 air conditioner was part of the Carrier Infinity series.
My unit locked up and the compressor is shot. Installed in 2006 and 2 months out of warranty and Carrier say tough, nothing we can do. Registered on date of install! Lasted 10 years and 2 months and cost $11,500 for it to be installed. The unit is a junk unit that Carrier knows about. I will never buy Carrier again, period! They can stick it where the sun doesn't shine! Wade

Bought complete system 10 years ago. Have had over 10 service calls. Freon was low 3 times. Come to find out the 1 year old condenser on the air handler was leaking. Service people replaced the condenser with a smaller one than what originally came on it while I was not here. Many capacitors replaced. At 9 years and 10 months the compressor went out. Now at 10 years old the blower on the air handler just went out. Do not buy a Carrier!

Sears Installed this unit in September, 2013 and we only have problems after problems with this unit, after four month the technician told me that they have to replace the compressor. Sears is the worst company to deal with house improvements in Nassau County, NY. Please don't use Sears or Carrier try to find a dealer with good reputation. Thanks

We spent a large amount of money on a Carrier system with a heat pump. We were assured that it was the greatest. It has never performed like it was advertised and now is kaput! The compny we bought it from would not honor a guarantee because they said it had only a 5 year warranty! We are going with a Sears Kenmore without a heat pump and a 10 year warranty and we are happy.

Unit is crap after 8 years pd more than $11,000 dollars should last many years but no coil leaks and cost more to fix in labor to redo everything in attic to make new coil fit, than a new unit would cost, someone should sue the corp
As a commercial unit, the 38TDB Infinity has very few consumer reviews across the web. However, the Carrier Infinity air conditioning series has a strong presence on review sites and forums. Several review sites, including webhvac.com and hvacreview.net, recommend these systems for homeowners in warmer climates because of the unit’s high efficiency and durability.
Homeowners and contractors on gardenweb.com also are pleased with Carrier’s top-of-the-line Infinity units. Although several homeowners mention the installation took more than a day and the unit’s high price point, other consumers report a noticeable decrease in their utility bill with the new unit. With minimal troubleshooting issues reported across the web, professionals also note very little issues with these systems when properly installed.
