"Cheap cast iron construction"

My Burnham oil fired steam boiler is less than 17 years old, about half the expected lifetime, and it has burned through the cast iron boiler unit from the inside. Word from Burnham is that this is my problem due to water quality (mineral content). This boiler replaced a system that was still working and over 40 years old. This short and useful life for this boiler leads me to assume faulty engineering and construction. I'm replacing it with a Weil McLain.

Just had a leak appear on the side of my Burnham V7. I've had it 24 years, so I guess it doesn't owe me anything. My plumber said he may be able to do a quick fix by putting sealant into boiler. Had done this before with others and lasted another 3 years. Go for it, I said.

"All Burnham V7 series are leakers"

About 20 years ago we were only installing Burnham boilers. They started leaking from a cracked section so Burnham would send a new block. We installed the blocks for no charge to our customers and after a while the company started kicking in $250 for our labor. Many of the new replacements we put in also leaked so Burnham updated them with heavier sections. That took care of the problem for a while so that now they last around 15 years and surprise, they start leaking. No more lifetime guarantee on the blocks so they will sell us a new bare block for the price that I can buy a complete boiler with a burner and controls. I would never buy another Burnham boiler. They should be shut down by the government for running a company like this.

"Burnham V7 and V8"

Very Unsatisfied

I am very unsatisfied with Burnham product. I owned v7 series (similar to v8) boiler for 16 years and found one section had developed crack just when cold season started. That made me very upset. I contacted Burnham and they said I have two options. Get credit of $6xx (prorated) for new Burnham boiler or I would have to purchase the block at discounted prise of $ 15xx and find someone to install. My current oil company installs only Burnham and they estimated to about $7k for new V8Hx boiler. I am just wondering if is it worth going with Burnham or just install different brand?

This unit was supposed to have a lifetime warranty but that's a joke. It started leaking and they just want to give you a rebate on a new one!
