BUDERUS GB142 Boiler Reviews
Showing 6-10 of 72 reviews
Worst boiler ever! Thankfully, I read the manual at the inception of the installation and leaned how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the boiler or it would not have lasted 3 years. Even with the annual routine maintenance, I have had repeated issues with the fan, tank, heat exchanger, and pressure sensor. This is the second Buderus boiler I have had to replace, along with two defective, in-direct hot water heaters.
"Save your money, product stinks"
Heat exchanger failed after 3 years and cost $2,400 to replace. Service was terrible and supplier, Platsky, was totally unresponsive. Buderus is the pits and their service provider is in the same category.
"Buderus Denies Responsibility"
Buderus admits the unit was in inventory for 27 months before it was sold to me as new. The boiler leaked after 3 years. Dealer Service replaced two compression fittings and gaskets inside the cabinet for a total of $770! The serviceman said that the parts looked defective. Buderus Service denies any responsibility. The factory responded and my claim was denied.
"Great Boiler But Needs Annual Maintenance"
5-Year old gb142-45 works great but high-tech, so V. imp to do annual maintenance right and check water quality. Parts expensive but not hard to get on East coast (SupplyHouse.com). Am10 outdoor reset failed after 5 years, easy to swap out, but Buderus only does warranty replace with licensed tech. Cost to bring tech in same as warrantied part, so just bought replacement. Air vent and pipe unions prone to leak esp. If boiler goes cold for a while, so replace gaskets. High efficiency design makes more sense in Europe where fuel costs 2x more than us/can, which offsets high cost of parts/maintenance. Buderus support improving: now talking to homeowners directly but all warranty requests still done only through techs. Overall a great boiler but must be installed & serviced by tech who knows Buderus systems well. I would buy again.
"NEVER BUY THIS BOILER"
I bought this boiler on the recommendation of my plumber when I built my house in 2009. Worked great for the first few years. Then the combustion chamber cracked at the start of winter in year 4. About a week with no heat, because even though it was covered under warranty (part, not the $750 in labor) Buderus didn't have any extra blocks in the us. Supply house finally took apart a new one and gave my plumber the block. Now, in year 8, it has developed the dreaded 6A error code. Google Buderus 6A error code. Whole forums on the subject. Lots of things can cause it. It was trial and error – replace UBA ($540), Kim card, Circuit board, etc. No luck. Finally just came back on after another plumber richened the fuel mixture. None of the emergency heat guys or plumbers know anything about these units. They are basically computers hooked to a boiler. No one stocks parts for these on their trucks. So unless it is M-F between 8-4 and you live near a supply house that stocks Buderus, you are totally out of luck. Give me 85% efficiency with great reliability over 95% efficiency with uncertain reliability any day. I would NEVER EVER but one of these again.
