The Bryant Legacy Plus 90 is a single stage, Energy Star rated gas furnace with an AFUE rating of up to 95.5%. The Plus 90 uses Bryant’s Fan On Plus technology to increase air circulation and fan control. It features a low-noise combustion system for quiet operation, and a high efficiency air filter cabinet to increase air quality. It also uses a pilot-free ignition, on board diagnostics, and a digital thermostat for easy consumer use.
This company never stands by their product. First when the heat exchanger issue arose, they never had the courtesy of letting affected customers know exactly where they stood. When you call them, you get a run around. Now, had issues with the pressure sensor value over and over. Finally motor started to make noises; guess what, the part is no longer available. In essense you dont carry parts knowing that these are failure prone components.
Time comes now to replace the unit after 19 years; the best they can do is offer 700$ in credit card promotion. 5500$ on top. Really; upon calling around better units from Trane costs 4500 installed.

Very Unsatisfied
We purchased our 1000sf condo two and a half years ago. We thought it would be a while before we had to deal with mechanical issues as the building was built in 05-06. At this point, the furnace would be roughly 14 years old. It should definitely have some life left in it. Had a furnace tech come out for regular maintenance/cleaning and discovered that the heat exchanger is bad. Turns out it costs nearly as much to replace that as to just replace the whole furnace! $3956 to repair it, $4770 for a new furnace. Were probably going to shop around for a new furnace. It just so happens were selling our condo, I guess we can kiss goodbye to about 1/3 of our proceeds now. Thanks Bryant!

We moved into our 1969 built bungalow in the spring of 2016. Everything was in order except our furnace had been installed in the spring of 2000! We thought we’d go through the summer with the unit in ‘central air mode’ and then see how it would perform during our first winter? This unit is a great performer! Two summers and one winter with no problems! I’m not a believer in spending money on service, but that just came back to me in a very inconvenient way. The unit would not keep running? It was our first cold day of the fall. It got down to 17 degrees f or minus 8 C. To make a long story short, I thought it was the ‘pressure switch’ but it ended up being the vapour/water trap! It was clogged with all sorts of ‘gunk’, but after a good cleaning the furnace was back to normal! Can’t really afford a new unit, right now, as that would set us back $6000 to $8000! Hope this great unit ‘trudges on’ for another few years. So far so good! Thanks Bryant for making such a solid, reliable unit! Ken Canada

I bought a home with a Bryant 90 Plus furnace…it’s been in this home for 6 years and virtually every year this F…er has given me problems and hvac bills. I was also informed that certain Bryant models have a recall for issues with the heat exchanger and silicon gaskets that have a fire potential. Sorry that I dont have more specific information on the recall but buyer beware. I would never want anyone to have to deal with these problems.

"Bryant furnace lawsuit"

Somewhat Unsatisfied
My mother had a Bryant 90 Plus furnace that kept tripping the flame roll out switch. Turns out there is a lawsuit on all Bryant 90 Plus furnaces with certain model numbers after 1989. The engineer tried to cut corners and installed a secondary heat exchanger that was plastic coated instead of using a stainless steel exchanger (this has since been changed back to stainless in all new models). Keep in mind, Bryant will not own up to this as a recall, you must mention the lawsuit from the U.S. and Canada. Go online to look up the model numbers involved in the suit, call Bryant (Carrier Corp.) and give them your info. You must use a local contractor that deals with Carrier equipment and they will get the free secondary heat exchanger and 4 hours labor from Carrier. You should not have to pay any extra unless it goes beyond the 4 hours (which it most likely will, you’re essentially dismantling the furnace). To get you by until the furnace man comes, crack the main manual gas valve back slightly to prevent trip outs on the limit, this will also help to reduce the temperature and that plastic burning smell. Of course you won’t be at full Btu’s, but you will have heat (what is happening is the plastic is warping on the metal heat exchanger causing a plugged condition). The furnace has a low and high fire position and when it goes into high fire it will trip out if too much gas is entering the chamber because of the plugged exchanger !
Although the Legacy Line Plus 90 has limited reviews online, most consumers on gasfuranceguide.com are pleased with the Plus 90’s performance. One poster on the site says his model breaks down at least once a year, but overall he’s satisfied with repair and parts costs. Another writer on hvac-for-beginners.com states the Plus 90 is a good, reliable option for a basic furnace.
