Bryant 340MAV Furnace Overview

The Bryant MAV single capacity condensing furnace has a three-pass heat exchanger and a secondary condensing heat exchanger. Its sealed combustion system and high efficiency blower were designed to produce the most heat possible while using the least amount of fuel. Bryant states that the 340 MAV delivers ninety percent of the heat produced to the inside of the user’s home.

The Bryant 340 MAV is Energy Star compliant and uses natural gas as its fuel source. The unit has a relatively high AFUE of 92%.

Most comments about the Bryant 340 MAV relate to fixable problems.

One poster on expressed concern about the control board flashing on the 340 MAV. HVAC contractors reported back that the control board was perhaps operating as it should; the flashing could indicate filter-replacement or coil cleaning is needed.

Posters on point to the fact that Carrier, Bryant’s parent company, settled a lawsuit in 2008 involving many of their high-efficiency models manufactured after 1989, including the 340 MAV. The settlement offers an extended warranty for owners; the premise of the lawsuit was that the models were not lasting as they should.

Flashing yellow LED light on a Bryant 340 MAV


According to the owner’s manual a continuous yellow light means that the furnace is operating in high heat.

However, if it is flashing there should be a number next to the yellow flashing light. This number is the error code and will give you an idea of the source of the problem. For the error codes go here and look at page 11.

The warranty details for the Bryant 340 MAV are as follows:

  • The heat exchangers are covered by a 20-year limited warranty
  • The 340 MAV is covered by a 5-year limited warranty
