The Bryant 556A Quantum Plus is a discontinued central air conditioner with an efficiency of 14 SEER. It used a scroll compressor, and high- and low-level switches protected the unit from significant changes in operating pressure. A liquid line filter drier with up to four times the capacity of standard driers was included for protection from contaminants and moisture and to extend the life of the system. Accessible service valves and a large access panel allowed improved serviceability, while a galvanized steel cabinet with powder paint finish provided protection from the elements. The 556A Quantum Plus used Puron refrigerant.
Not the hottest state but gets humidity. This helps and has a great reputation. Read on the internet this web site is holding up reviews. Anyone else have this problem?
"Hot Weather Beater"
Yep, it does the job. Checked the older reviews and there are many in favor of this. Also, check the major web sites, they agree. The chart should show 3 green dots as the other reviewer suggested. Have it installed by a skilled tech. Great company support, telephone, and emails.
I bought this a/c with a matching Bryant variable speed furnace. (see my furnace review under Bryant) I was at first shocked at the size of the the unit compared with my old Carrier, but now after 12 years I don't even notice it. It is a Puron (r410a) refrigerant unit (which I was at first skeptical because it was new at the time) and has run without fail for over 12 years now. It's quiet (at least quieter than my neighbors) and I will definately look to Bryant again, (if I ever need to.)
