Corporate History
Charles Bryant founded the Natural Gas Regulator Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1904. The company began selling gas-fired boilers within the next four years, when Bryant changed the company’s name to Bryant Heater & Manufacturing Co.
Throughout the 1920s, Bryant dominated the U.S. market for gas boilers. In the 1930s, Dresser Industries acquired the Bryant Heater Co., and in 1945, Dresser acquired Payne Furnace & Supply Co. and the Day & Night Water Heater Co. Soon thereafter, all three companies bought their way out of Dresser and formed Affiliated Gas Equipment Inc. (AGE). AGE was acquired by Carrier in 1955, which in turn became a subsidiary of UTC in 1979.
Today, Bryant Heating and Cooling is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with dealers located across the United States and Canada.

Contractor certification
Bryant says that its Factory Authorized Dealers (FAD) represent the highest standards of all Bryant dealers. These dealers must pass stringent business requirements to be recognized as a Bryant FAD, such as obtaining certification from the North American Technician Excellence program, having a representative who attends at least two days of class at the Bryant Academy every two years and attending product training classes. These dealers must sell only Bryant products, offer their customers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and issue “Customer Care” surveys.
According to Bryant, its FADs get more business than other dealers since the manufacturer endorses these companies’ workmanship and installation quality. The dealers also benefit from sales and marketing assistance. Consumers also benefit from working with dealers who adhere to the highest industry standards.
