American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning makes residential, commercial and industrial central air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps (as well as bath and kitchen products). American Standard is owned by Trane Inc., which is in turn owned by Ingersoll-Rand (NYSE: IR), and is headquartered in Missouri. In 2017 Ingersoll Rand had net revenues of approximately $14.2 billion.
American Standard Cos. was formed in 1929 from the merger of American Radiator (founded in 1892) and Standard Sanitary; it took on the American Standard name officially in 1967. The company acquired Trane in 1984, but in 2007, as it divested several business divisions, it changed the name of its HVAC business to Trane while retaining the American Standard brand name. In 2008, the company was acquired by Ingersoll-Rand.
American Standard offers air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces ranging from Silver to its top-tier Platinum units. The AccuComfort Platinum 20 air conditioner can reach up to 21 SEER and includes features such as the AccuLink system that communicates with other HVAC components for the most efficient cooling.
The company offers gas and oil furnaces ranging from basic single-stage, 80 AFUE options to a top-tier variable-speed, fully modulating unit, the Platinum 95, that can reach up to 97.3 AFUE.
The company also offers heat pumps ranging from 14 to 20 SEER. These units offer features such as Duration compressors and a corrosion-resistant, all aluminum coil. The AccuComfort Platinum 20 heat pump was named a Gold Award winner in the HVAC Residential Equipment catagory in the 2015 Dealer Design Awards, sponsored by the ACHR News.
