The Amana ASZ16 is a high-efficiency, split-system heat pump that provides an efficiency rating of up to 16 SEER and 9.0 HSPF. The ASZ16 features a two-speed condenser fan motor, and a two-stage, high-efficiency Copeland UltraTech Scroll compressor. High and low-pressure switches are factory installed, along with a bi-flow liquid-line filter dryer. A high density foam compressor sound blanket and the Amana-brand sound control top provide quiet operation. The ASZ16 is both AHRI certified and ETL listed, and uses the environmentally-friendly R-410A refrigerant.
Units have been nothing but a pain since buying. Would I do business with Amana in the future, the answer is no. They try to backpedal on warranty and have plenty of hidden items in their so called warranty. You might know that the owner has been or still is in prison. To me that is where the whole company should be. Update: 09-14-2017: This is the latest. Hvac people came out today and guess what: I have a condenser out again. This one was replaced in April of 2014 and Amana says no warranty as we go back to the original purchase date and not the replacement date. Is that cs or is that cs. The warranty that goes with Amana is null and void. I also place a lot of the blame with the original installer Reliant a/c of Irving Texas who fumbled the ball at nearly every snap.
"Amana Brings the Heat"
I've owned this Amana heat pump unit for almost a year now. I moved into a new construction home and this system was included with it therefore it is a brand new unit. So far, I've only gone through one winter with the system but I have no complaints. I think the unit does a great job of heating my house and I haven't noticed any issues or increased utility costs. I've never had to replace this unit. This heat pump is a high efficiency unit and kept my utility bills low during the winter months and had my entire home heated quickly when I needed it to. I would buy the same brand again and recommend it to friends. In the summer months it had done a great job of keeping the house cool as well. I haven't noticed any loud noises and the unit it's moderately quiet compared to other units that I have experience with.
"Amana Heat Pump in Alabama"
We have had our heat pump for 9 years. We had it installed before we moved into our house. We purchased this particular brand because it came with a lifetime warranty on the compressor. We have had the outdoor unit replaced once using the warranty after the compressor locked up the year after we had it installed. Since then, we have had very little done to it. In the summer, temperatures in Alabama can reach 100+ degrees and the heat pump still does a good job keeping the house cool. During the winter, we do use our emergency heat so that the heat pump does not run for long periods of time trying to warm the house. This has worked well for us, even when the outdoor temperature is in the teens. We use our regular heat when it is not too cold outside and the unit still does fine. Overall, we have been satisfied with our Amana heat pump. We have had it serviced once a year, with the outdoor and indoor coils being cleaned. If we had a complaint, it would be that it is not as quiet as the newer units that are advertised, but it is still quieter than our neighbor's outdoor unit. When it comes time to replace our Amana unit, we will definitely consider buying another unit. Unfortunately, the model we have is no longer available, with the warranty we have.
"Don't waste your money"
Purchased new in 2007 with 10 year parts and labor warranty. The unit has been down 3 weeks now in this heat. First it was the expansion valve and it quit again the next day. Now it's the outside coil. Customer service stinks. Hours on the phone and no one will return calls. Stay away.
"Leaky Exchanger after only 4 years"
After only 4 years the inside exchanger (coil) has a leak. It cost me $75 for the first visit to diagnose, $225 for the second visit to do a "leak search", and today I will have to pay $450 to have the coil replaced! That's $700 for a machine that has only been installed 4 years folks! The servicer showed me the leak and there was quite a bit of rust too. I have read many reviews on here with the same failed part in a short amount of time. Has anyone been able to get Amana to refund some these outragious service costs??
There are a few complaints by consumers on online forums about the ASZ16, but several of them on hvac-talk.com appear to be with the service techs and not the unit itself. A couple of users on doityourself.com stated that they love the ASZ16, while a couple others complained about delivery time for parts under warranty and the labor costs to install the parts.
The Amana ASZ16 heat pump is covered by a Lifetime Unit Replacement limited warranty and a 10-year parts limited warranty.
