Amana AMH95 Furnace Overview

The Amana AMH95 gas furnace offers up to 96 percent AFUE and has a heating input from 46,000 to 115,000 BTU/H. This model features two-stage heating, meaning that the system will operate on a low setting unit for a majority of time, moving to the higher setting only when necessary, to increase efficiency and home comfort.

Additional benefits of this unit include the company’s stainless steel, dual-diameter tubular heat exchanger as well as a stainless-steel secondary heat exchanger; a multi-speed fan for quiet operation; and a two-stage gas valve that enables the installer to activate the two-stage functionality with the flip of a switch.

The cabinet of the AMH95 is fully insulated, heavy-gauge steel with a baked-enamel finish for extra durability. The control board that stores the most recent diagnostic issues also is located on the exterior of the unit, allowing for quick service.

Amana AMH95 Furnace Reviews

"Not Happy"

The furnace is only three years old and has stopped working three times. Minnesota has very cold winters and today it is zero degrees outside! I need a reliable furnace! The model number listed on my installation paperwork is not included in the list provided on this site?? So here I sit in my 58 degree home waiting for a technician who will come “anytime” today. My previous furnace had repair once in 20 years until it died the winter of 2013. I would not recommend this furnace but it looks like I am stuck with it.

The Amana-Goodman furnaces are nothing but junk. We’ve had multiple service calls annually during the 4-year life of the furnace. The condenser pan was replaced twice. Furnace was just replaced after a failed heat exchanger. Cost to replace was $1,000 for labor. We’ve also replaced the AC coil.

Very unreliable. The furnace is 3 years old and I have had service folks out to repair all 3 years, including 3 times this winter. I am very dissatisfied with this furnace.

"Furnace reliability"

This furnace has stopped working twice in less then a week. The previous Lennox furnace was 20 years old and never had problems like this. I had to replace parts on it but it didn’t quit like this Amana. It was installed in November of 2013 and due to the warranty and reviews I thought it was reliable but now I have my doubts.

"Blower motor"

The unit is an AMH950905DX, installed by St. Cloud Heating. I had to have them out 3 times when the heat went out. Finally, they figured out the motor was bad, then they found two other parts were bad. They didn’t have those parts with them so it ended up costing me $405 dollars to replace the motor & for the second service call, due to them not having the parts with them. The unit was 2 years and 2 months old.

Other AMH95 Reviews

Overall, the Amana AMH95 receives positive reviews around the web. Contractors on forums such as or consider this a good purchase, and give special mention to the stainless steel primary heat exchanger, two-speed operation, and multispeed components.

However, some reviews mention the unit’s two-stage heating as a potential drawback. The system operates on a timer to determine the next phase of heating, rather than automatically adjusting to temperature dips and highs, and some reviewers see this as a drawback in efficiency.

An additional review on compliments this unit on its efficiency and money saving components. Moreover, this reviewer believes it’s the warranty makes this unit standout from the crowd.
