Amana Distinctions Central Air Conditioners

Amana Distinctions Air Conditioner Overview

The Amana Distinctions is a split system air conditioner with five models ranging in efficiency from 13 to 18 SEER. The 16 SEER DSXC16 and the 18 SEER DSXC18 have two-stage Copeland UltraTech scroll compressors with foam compressor sound blankets for noise reduction, while the 13 SEER GSX13, 14 SEER GSX14 and 16 SEER GSX16 have single-stage compressors. A filter drier is factory-installed in each unit to help extend the life of the compressor, while sweat connection service valves and easy-access gauge ports provide easier installation and maintenance. The heavy-gauge galvanized steel cabinet features a corrosion-resistant powder paint finish with 500-hour salt spray approval and a sound control top.

"Air Handler poor design flaws"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

Coils in air handler replaced twice within the same year. Called Amana girl could care less on national line 877-254-4729 just hung up on me. Great company…LOL. As we say in the Army this company is fubar. They do not care if their aluminum coils are too thin to take the pressure of the coil. Amana and Goodman are the same company. They both are a POS.

"Pile of junk!"

Former 20 year old HVAC saw a technician once in it's life to recharge. Thinking replacement would be cheaper to costs to power co. & more efficient, we went all new incl. Ductwork. From a 2 ton to a 5 ton! Now, after 8 years and service calls at least once a year for AC not cold at all, sensors that failed, poor airflow with 5" hepa filter they also installed, draining water issues, etc, etc. I feel we were totally ripped off by our seller/install company. The fan has to run all day and night, house never cools a single degree. In a 90 degree day (for example) at 73 degrees at 7am, by noon it will be 84 or more after running all day!!! I would not recommend this product to anybody!! What products have the worst reviews that out number all the others? Wish I knew what I know now. Do not waste your money on this pile of poorly engineered junk!!

"Amana AC warranty is not good"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I installed two Amana Distinction heating/AC units at the same time, one was a heat pump and the other was not. Both started having issues at year four after installation and should have had 10-year warranties. One required a new cooling coil, which was covered by warranty; the second unit had the fan and circuit board fail and Amana refused to honor the warranty even though both were installed at the same time. Repeated attempts to get Amana customer service to respond failed. Their local service rep was timely however they tried to charge me 100% markup on the fan and circuit board. Amana will never get my business again.

Unit is five years old, we have had two compressors fail and the evaporator coil leak. The unit is very unreliable and prone to break. Horrible warranty support from Amana/Goodman as well! We will never have another Amana AC product! Buyer beware.

"Horrible experience"

1.0 rating

I bought this unit in 2009. In 2014 the coil went out, it was under warranty, but to wait for the time to get the part and pay for the Freon – they used r-22, which is very expensive – it cost me a few thousand dollars before the fix was complete. In June of this year, less than one year later, I needed 5 pounds of Freon again, and today I returned home and yet, again, it is not working. I will be calling Trane and get a real piece of equipment like my neighbor bought. Please do not go for the price, this is unacceptable and the equipment is sub-standard.
