Ruud Manufacturing Co. produces central air conditioners, heat pumps and gas and oil furnaces. Ruud is owned by Rheem, which in turn is owned by Paloma Industries, a part of the Paloma Group, a privately-held company headquartered in Nagoya, Japan. Rheem's North American headquarters are in Atlanta. The Paloma Group reports its annual revenue to be approximately $3.0 billion.
Edwin Ruud, a Norwegian mechanical engineer, founded Ruud more than 100 years ago, when he began manufacturing an automatic water heater in the 1880s. Ruud began offering heating and air conditioning equipment in the 1950s. Rheem acquired Ruud in 1959, while Paloma Industries acquired Rheem in 1988.
Ruud markets residential and commercial heating and cooling equipment primarily under the Ultra, Achiever and Value trade names.
Ultra air conditioners can reach up to 19.5 SEER, while the Value Series units (when properly paired with complementary units) can reach up to 16 SEER. Unique features of these units include a fully-communicating thermostat and Comfort Control diagnostic system.
Ruud offers single- and 2-stage heat pumps, as well. These units range from 15 to 17 SEER. The company's gas furnaces offer a similar range of single- and 2-stage motors, with AFUE from 80 to 96 percent. The Achiever oil furnace, which comes in 86.5 percent and 85.9 percent AFUE models, rounds out the manufacturer's furnace offerings.

To receive full warranty benefits, consumers are encouraged to register their products online within 60 days of installation.
