Nortek Global HVAC is a subsidiary of Nortek Inc., which was acquired by Melrose Industries PLC in August 2016. Melrose Industries PLC had revenues of approximately $345 million in 2015.
Nortek Global HVAC was founded in 1919 in St. Louis as International Oil Heating Co. In 1927 it became one of the first businesses to advertise on the radio. The company is historically notable for developing products such as air conditioners and furnaces for use in trailers and mobile homes. The company acquired the licenses to a large number of outside brands after the turn of the millennium.
In 2015 the company changed its name from Nordyne to Nortek Global HVAC. In 2016 Nortek Global HVAC's parent company, Nortek Inc., was acquired by Melrose Industries PLC.
Nortek Global HVAC manufactures many different types of furnaces and air conditioners. Of particular noteworthiness is the iQ Drive technology, which makes use of an inverter-driven rotary compressor within its residential air conditioners, allowing the units to reach up to 25.5 SEER. The company also makes highly efficient furnaces, with two-stage operation and AFUE ratings of more than 95 percent.
The company also designs heating and cooling products to be used in manufactured housing. These are sold under the brands Intertherm and Miller.
