Wolfgang Schroeter started Wolf Steel, Ltd., in 1976 as a small fabrication business that manufactured steel railings. In 1981 the Napoleon brand name was born, and the company grew to manufacture and sell stoves, fireplaces, heating and cooling equipment, and other products throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Napoleon is now an ISO9001 – 2008 registered company and has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed Companies. Napoleon has over 1,000 employees and operates with over 1,200,000 square feet of manufacturing space. According to the company, they are North America’s largest privately-owned manufacturer of quality wood and gas fireplaces, gourmet gas and charcoal grills, outdoor living products and heating & cooling products.
Napoleon's line of central air conditioners range from 13 SEER to 16 SEER units and are made with swept fan blade technology for increased efficiency and noise reduction. The company also offers two heat pump series, in 14 and 16 SEER units.
A line of five gas furnace includes the Ultimate 9700 Series, which according to the company is the shortest two-stage unit on the market, with an efficiency of over 97% AFUE. A line of three wood/hybrid furnaces offer triple fuel combinations, with wood, oil, and electric configurations.

Gas furnace warranties vary according to the unit. All furnaces have a 10-year parts warranty. The heat exchanger warranty ranges from a lifetime warranty to a 20-year warranty. Select units also have a Unit Replacement warranty, ranging from 10 to 15 years.
All equipment must be registered within 60 days from date of purchase for maximum warranty coverage.
