Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating supplies ductless air conditioning and heating systems for single and multi-room applications. Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating is the HVAC manufacturing branch of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Electric Group, which had net sales of approximately $38.3 billion in 2017.
Yataro Iwasaki began the group of Mitsubishi companies with a shipping firm established in 1870 in Japan. The founder expanded his business dealings in shipbuilding, mining, banking and insurance. In 1946, the Mitsubishi Cos. were divided into smaller companies and have continued to operate independently of one another. In 1968, the company began manufacturing a wall-mounted, split system air conditioner.
In 1980, Mitsubishi Electric created its North American HVAC division, and in 1982 introduced the Mr. Slim product to the U.S. In 2009 the Star Lineup was introduced, which included 15 Energy Star rated systems.
Mitsubishi Electric offers indoor and outdoor single- and multi-zone air conditioners. The Star line of ductless air-conditioning and heating products include a number of Energy Star-certified options, and features such as allergen filtration and "eco-comfort" technology that minimizes energy usage. Products are rated as high as 30.5 SEER.
Other features include a Hot Start system on heat pumps that means the fan won't activate until the desired temperature is reached. Available on some units is the Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) technology, which helps the product operate more effectively to as cold as -13° Fahrenheit.

In 2012, Mitsubishi Electric began to use proprietary equipment to recover and repurpose rare earth magnets from used room air conditioners. These hard-to-come-by metals are used to improve the efficiency of its room air conditioners. At that time, it incorporated this process into its Green Cycle Systems Corp. recycling plant, which recycles used appliances.
In addition, the group is seeking ways to incorporate into its air conditioner products new power-saving technology, such as its silicon carbide (SiC) energy-saving devices that help regulate power usage.
