Today Dayton is the brand name of furnace, air conditioner and heat pump systems manufactured by parent company W.W. Grainger Inc. It serves industrial, commercial and residential markets. Grainger had net sales of approximately $9.9 billion in 2014.
Dayton Electric Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1937. That same year, W.W. Grainger Inc. began merchandising certain lines under the Dayton brand; Grainger would acquire the entire company in 1966.
W.W. Grainger was incorporated in Chicago in 1928. Today, it specializes in supplying maintenance, repair and operating products through online channels. The company consistently earns awards for business practices. In 2014 and 2015, Grainger earned the number one ranking in Fortune Magazine's list of World's Most Admired Companies in the catagory of Wholesalers: Diversified.
Dayton has a wide range of gas furnaces ranging from 80 to 95 percent AFUE. These multi-position gas furnaces can easily be applied in upflow, horizontal or downflow installation situations, and come equipped with a rollout safety control. In the past, Grainger also has offered Dayton oil furnaces as either upflow, lowboy or horizontal. All of the company's furnaces come with a proven heat exchanger and 16-gauge all-welded construction. There is a hard-cast ceramic combustion chamber for proper flame control and long reliability. Consumers can add on air conditioning with the fan relay.
The brand also includes several air conditioning and heat pump condenser units with an efficiency of 14.5 SEER; the manufacturer notes that when paired with compatible units, air conditioners can reach 16.5 SEER and heat pumps can meet up to 15 SEER. Each unit comes with a Hi/Lo pressure switch and wire coil guards, while heat pumps also feature a demand-defrost control.
W.W. Grainger Inc. holds an environmental policy that addresses healthy measures in its facilities and transportation of products. The company has 16 LEED-certified facilities and participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project to report and monitor the company's environmental footprint.
