Coleman Heating and Air Conditioning makes residential and light commercial central air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces. The Coleman Company is a subsidiary of York, a Johnson Controls Company, and has manufacturing facilities at its headquarters in Norman, Oklahoma, as well as in Wichita, Kansas. Johnson Controls had net sales of $42.8 billion in 2014.
Coleman was founded in 1900, and sold lanterns and camp stoves for most of its history. In 1958, Coleman began selling HVAC equipment for mobile homes. As part of its expansion into heating and cooling, the company acquired Red T Coil in 1984. In 1990, Coleman's Heating and Cooling division was acquired by Evcon Industries. York UPG acquired Evcon Industries in 1996. In 1999, York's Unitary Products Group began to market all of its products under the Coleman brand name.
Coleman markets its central air conditioners, gas furnaces and heat pumps under the Echelon, LX and Comforteer trade names. The Echelon line is marketed as more "stylish" and quieter than LX and Comforteer models, in addition to offering higher efficiency.
