Blue Star is a central air conditioning manufacturer located in India. Although the company's primary focus is air conditioning equipment for corporate and commercial customers, it began manufacturing residential air conditioning systems in 2011. Blue Star employs 2,500 people and had a total income of $450 million in 2014.
Founded in 1943, Blue Star began as a 3-member team developing air conditioners and refrigerators. Three years later the company started producing ice candy machines and bottle coolers. Since then, it has grown into a commercial refrigeration manufacturer and the largest central air conditioning provider in India. In the 1980s, the company began its collaborations with U.S. air conditioning manufacturers, including York and Rheem. Blue Star now has has operations in 32 offices with seven manufacturing facilities throughout India.
Blue Star manufactures room air conditioning units for residential use. These units are rated by the manufacturer from 2 to 5 stars and are available as window units and split-systems. The company's central cooling product line, produced for commercial customers, consists of three packaged units, as well as a variety of fan coil units, cassette, verticool split, and concealed split configurations.
