Amana makes residential and commercial air conditioning and heating equipment. Amana is a subsidiary of Goodman, which is a member of the Daikin Group. Daikin had net sales of approximately $18.4 billion in 2017.
Amana was founded as Amana Refrigerator Inc. in 1934, taking its name from its city of origin, Amana, Iowa. Goodman Manufacturing purchased Amana in 1997. In 2001, Goodman sold Amana’s major appliance business and trademark to the Maytag Corporation, but kept Amana’s air conditioner and heating division. In 2012, Goodman was purchased by Daikin and became part of the Daikin Group.
Amana markets central air conditioners and heat pumps under the Premium and Distinctions series. Both series offer a range in efficiencies from 13 to 18 SEER. Amana markets gas furnaces as high or standard efficiency. Furnaces feature the company’s Million-Air heat exchanger, which is made with stainless steel tubing and formed using a proprietary engineering technology.
