A typical central air unit will last 10 to 20 years, depending on how well it was maintained, running conditions (humidity and head index) and how often it was used. York has had various reviews and is generally considered a good product, and is commonly recommended by certified installers.
If the unit is still blowing cold air and dosn't seem to be in disrepair a good way to tell if your A/C unit is in need of replacement is to look at your electricity costs over the past few years. Many electrical companies will give you a read out of the average monthly temperature along with your electricity usage. If you find that the cost has consistently gone up over the past few years it might be time for a replacement, or at least time to have a professional take a look at it.

If you keep your condenser and evaporator "CLEAN" i.e. change your air filter religiously and hose down your condensing unit as needed your system will last for many years. Also check your delta "T" (temperature drop) across the furnace/evaporator if its 20 degrees (i.e. return 75 supply 55) you will have a pretty good idea if it's functioning correctly of not.
Just looking at your electric bill year over year is NOT a valid method. There are too many other variables that effect your electrical usage.
Again... a properly installed A/C system with no refrigerant leaks...that is kept clean will last a long time....KEEP IT CLEAN
