Overall, consumer response suggests that Rheem is the superior brand.

Though Lennox has been lauded for its minimal environmental impact, Rheem touts a better customer satisfaction rating.

Lennox air conditioners boast impressive AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) numbers, but are ranked 42nd out of 53 brands on furnacecompare.com with only a 21% customer approval rating. While Rheem makes comparatively little effort to protect the environment, their central air systems place considerably higher at 24th out of 53 with a 38% customer approval rating.

Complaints regarding noise output, maintenance issues, and short life-span have been registered for both systems, though many of those complications could have been due to poor installation rather than poor product quality.
