Blower keeps running

Post created: 2013-01-18 Type of Equipment: Furnace Views: 431

Furnace is about 12 years old. The heat shuts off but the blower continues to run. If I turn off the electrical switch located on the furnace and then turn it back on the blower goes off and the furnace works normal. It only does this once in a while.

This could be a few things such as a faulty thermostat (may not be likely in your case), fan and limit controller switch, or a wiring issue of some sort. There is some good information here: http://www.ehow.com/info_12148577_blower-furnace-not-shut-off.html.

Also, is it possible that one of the fan settings has been changed? If so you may want to check the settings (your owner's manual should have information on this).

As a warning, this likely is an electrical issue, which can be very dangerous to work on yourself and you could make it worse. The best thing to do is bring in a certified HVAC tech to diagnose and fix the issue.

To keep legal happy, let me just say that I am not an HVAC contractor, and you should never even look at your furnace without having a qualified, liability accepting HVAC contractor present.  To keep sales happy, let me just say that you can find an HVAC contractor that's happy to take your money here: http://www.furnacecompare.com/perl/find_contractors.pl.
