A steady blinking red light on an American Standard Freedom 90 means there is a call for heat from the thermostat. This is normal and means the unit is performing as it should. If the red lights come in a series of blinks and pauses, this is an error code and is a way to diagnose a problem with the furnace. On the inside of your unit's front panel should be a chart of diagnostic codes and their meanings.

We get a lot of questions in the forum about furnace error codes. If you'd like to have a contractor take a look at your furnace, we can help you find one, here.
