This could be caused by a number of things, including a blower motor that needs to be replaced. It may also be a blower wheel that is off balance or a problem with the vent, among other possibilities. This is the sort of problem that will probably require the skills of a licensed HVAC professional. If you'd like a contractor to take a look at your furnace, we can help you find one, here.

If you are hearing a "squealing" kind of sound at start-up it very well could be that the draft inducer assembly has become rusted as a result of condensate build-up. This is very common when condensate builds-up as a result of lack of proper slope of your pvc plumbing at the furnace to allow for proper gravity draining. You can easily remove the draft inducer assembly, inspect for rust, and manually turn the motor to judge how stiff it is, etc. TURN OFF ALL POWER PRIOR TO THIS PROCEDURE.
If rust in the assembly is the case the "squealing" will get worse and very loud whereby the assembly won't work and therefore the furnace will not start at all. A new assembly is about $145.00.
