The thermostat is located behind the water heater's access panel. The thermostat should be factory set at 120 degrees. It will have a dial with settings from hot to very hot (160 degrees). These settings are usually at 10 degree intervals. Just turn the dial to the setting you want, but be aware of scalding risks at higher temperatures.

If you have a dual element model, you'll want to set the lower thermostat and be sure that the upper thermostat is not set higher than the lower one. You can find more information about this in the State service handbook.
