The city of Auburn is located in both King and Pierce County, Washington. Located in the southwestern corner of the state, it is situated near the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation, about 20 miles south of Seattle. The Green and White Rivers converge near Auburn. Originally named Slaughter in honor of a man who died in a battle with the Indians there in 1855, the cityís name was changed to Auburn by a group of settlers who arrived from Auburn, New York in 1893.
