Overview of the Affinity YZB
The York Affinity YZB is a discontinued single-stage heat pump with efficiency ratings of 13 SEER and 8.6 HSPF. The unit's compressor was protected by a high pressure relief valve and temperature sensors, along with a factory-installed filter drier. Improved fan design technology, a composite base pan and an isolated compressor compartment helped to lower sound levels, while easy service access was provided by a full end access panel with handle. The Affinity YZB was part of the York Affinity series.

"Affinity R-410A 13 seer"
York heat pump. I paid $6,600.00 to get it 8 years ago. Service tech has been here 15 times. I had to replace everything inside the unit in the last 8 years. Been here 5 times in the last 30 days -- still no heat pump. It will not come online. The tech had to order another part -- he is starting to replace the same parts again. He is tired of working on same pump. I know him by name and his whole family now. I told him to just stop buy every 60 -90 days and work on the junk. I think I need to replace the outer shell and it might work.. Not

"Unsatisfied with Heat Pump"
Had this unit, YZB03611 Affinity installed in September 2007. Has been nothing but trouble. Winter of 2008, unit ran and ran all night long blowing cool air. After having tech here time after time again, in winter December 24th 2009 we had no heat. Aux heat blowing cool air! Replaced control board. January 2010, our hydro bill went sky high. Still, unit running and running with cool air thru registers. Now, I find out blue coils recalled by reading reviews, no one called us to let us know and yes we have a blue coil. No, I would not buy a York again. I am now waiting for tech again.

"Excessive Failures First 5 Years"
We have two York heat pumps, both have failed twice in the first 5 years. The control boards on both had to be replaced. The fan bearings on one unit seized and had to be replaced. The other unit lost coolant and a leak was found and fixed. At just under 6 years old, one heat pump sometimes fails to start and the service tech could not determine the cause. The failure is so intermittent it is impossible to replicate when the tech is present. I think the control board is failing again. I plan to replace both units with another brand when or possibly before the 10 year warranty is up. Our former units were Trane and I plan to go back to Trane or American Standard as I firmly believe their quality and reliability are better. I also do not like the noisy scroll compressors on the York that sometimes start with a bang/thump.
Other Affinity YZB Reviews
There are a couple of posts on HVAC forums regarding defrost issues with the Affinity YZB. Suggested solutions range from recharging it to installing a new defrost control board, although one consumer on hvac-talk.com stated that he's already on his third board. A consumer on doityourself.com stated that he's had multiple problems with his YZB unit and that the design is poor and the field service is weak.
