Overview of the Affinity 8T
The York Affinity 8T is a discontinued two-stage heat pump. The Affinity 8T met Energy Star requirements, with efficiency ratings of up to 18 SEER and 9.4 HSPF. An isolated compressor compartment, a swept-wing fan design, and a sound-dampening composite base pan provided quiet operation, while Comfort Alert diagnostics monitored compressor activity for system protection. The steel cabinet featured a baked-on powder finish for increased durability and protection against the elements. The Affinity 8T was available with environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant. The Affinity 8T heat pump was part of the York Affinity series.

"Poor Quality Unit"
Had unit installed by York Technician in 2010. Just replace the coil in December 2016. York says unit out of warranty. Had another problem Feb 17. Now compressor has gone out. I won't buy another York unit when my other heat pump goes out. And if asked, I could not recommend York to anyone.

"Recommend York dual stage heat pump"
The York Dual Stage heat pump we selected has been outstanding in performance and value. It is fairly quiet for a 3-ton unit. The house is kept at a very constant comfortable temperature. Even though we added a device requiring two 40-amp and one 60-amp additions to the electrical service box, the bill for our all-electric house has only risen by 105, a small price to pay for the comfort and reliability of this system. Indeed, the dual stage unit is extremely cost effective. I would recommend setting the blower to "On" rather than "Auto". The blower is proportional speed, meaning it blows very softly until the heat pump. This helps maintain an even temperature through out the house (ours is 4-level), yet keeps the fan noise factor at a minimum. I would recommend the York line, and Accurate Heating and Cooling, without reservation.

"York Affinity 5 ton heat pump"
I have only owned this for a day but already notice that the house is warmer than with the previous heat pump - a 23-year-old York unit. This new unit actually puts out air from the registers that feels warmer than the room temperature without running the electric coils. I can't wait to see what it does for my electric bill. UPDATE 5/11/16: Saving over 40% per month on my electric bill. Unit actually puts out warm air (not on the emergency heat) in the winter. Very pleased with the equipment and installation. Also purchased the ten-year warranty for peace of mind.

"Junk with no warranty"
Had unit installed in Aug 2012. Since I use wood for a major part of the heating season it worked fine until this winter. I lost heat on Jan 5 2014 and after 2 and 1/2 months and $800 I think it is working. The unit was originally installed wrong and the multiple mistakes caused parts to short out. Since it was installed wrong nothing is covered under warranty. York customer service says they do not license dealers anyone can buy and install a unit and the installer is responsible for all warranties. I found another York dealer in the area and after 4 service calls simply rewired the whole unit. York's response is once it leaves the factory they are not responsible. Stay away from these crooks.

Had old unit 14 years. Replaced with York high efficiency "Affinity 8t series" 5 months ago. Replaced outside unit, air handled under house and all lines. This last weekend was the coldest so far. The unit ran all night and when I looked outside it was a solid block of ice. Local HVAC dealer that sold me the unit has determined bad defrost board. Will return tomorrow for more service. On backup aux Heat, have electric meter chained down so it doesn't fly off the wall. Standby for results.
Other Affinity 8T Reviews
Two threads on hvac-talk.com discuss thermostat problems with the Affinity 8T, and two other threads are from consumers stating that their units are very loud. One of the consumers, after describing the problem, was told by a professional contributor that the noise was most likely due to an unstable base under the unit. Several threads on gardenweb.com compare the 8T with similar units by Trane, Coleman, and Lennox, with no clear preference.
