Overview of the XB14
The Trane XB14 is a single-stage heat pump with a cooling efficiency of up to 15.5 SEER and a heating efficiency of up to 8.5 HSPF. The unit features a Climatuff compressor and a Spine Fin aluminum coil which provides low airflow resistance and higher efficiency. Galvanized steel louvered panels with a baked-on powder paint finish and corrosion resistant fasteners help keep the XB14 safe from rust and corrosion, and the DuraTuff basepan is impervious to corrosion, cracking, or warping. The XB14 is potentially Energy Star qualified when installed as part of a qualifying Trane system.

"Warm and Toasty"
I have only had my heat pump since the previous one broke in early 2014. That's almost two years. The previous pump was constantly being repaired, and the repairman finally told me he thought I should scrap the old one and get a brand new one. He told me that the number one ranked heat pump on the market is the Trane XB14. I looked it up on the internet to confirm and it checked out with good ratings. I literally have not had one problem with my new heat pump. It is quiet (I'm not sure if the other one was loud because it was broken or if they are supposed to be silent), it doesn't take up any more space than the old one, and it came with a really good 10 year warranty. My utility bill has gone down quite a bit, as well. I am very happy with my heat pump.

"What makes a good heat Pump?"
Last winter was one of the coldest I've ever experienced in Tennessee. Ice storms, fallen trees, and frigid temperatures contributed to my old heat pump finally giving out. When I replaced it I went with a Trane model because I had heard such good things. I've had it for a little over a year now, and I have to say, it works like a dream. For one, it is so quiet! I love that my electric bill is lower too, I think because it works so efficiently. When I come home from work and turn up the air, I can feel the difference in temperature almost immediately. Humidity-wise, this model is great, too. I can really tell a difference from my older heat pump. I would definitely recommend this brand to anyone looking to upgrade, especially if you live in a southern state and want to be cool during these harsh summers.

"Horrible - only 4 years old, 11 service calls!"
Trouble from the beginning. Before it was even 2 years old, it had a bad motor, a leaking motor, a bad electric switch, and bad installation from All Weather Heating and A/C to boot! If I had the money I would have it taken out and a real unit put in. It's already cost me an additional $1000 in less than 4 years for labor and that's with the parts under warranty.

Today is Sept 14, 2012: I bought the XB14 4 ton heat pump (4twb4049e) and 5 ton air handler (4tee3f66a1000a) 23 months ago. When it was 9 months old the system died....in July.....90 + degrees.....and on a weekend.A circuit board burned out in the air handler. Apparently the 10 year warranty doesn't cover "after hours" or weekends. It cost me $300 and change to have it repaired. Corresponded with Trane in Texas asking why I had to pay to have this repaired when its only 9 months old and I spent thousands and thousands of dollars for the Trane system and why don't they stand by the Trane name. It was like talking to a politician. Last month the system died again ...August in Florida,hot-hot-hot...Air handler again. The bearings on the motor burned out..Dealer couldn't get a new motor for 24 hours,(could have if he wanted to but it was after hours). But I learned my lesson from last time, don't bother Trane in Texas and only have problems 8 to 5 Monday to Friday. The point of this complaint is "Why buy a Trane?". The company seems to be resting on the motto "can't stop a Trane". Well you certainly can and with a screeching halt. With the money you spend to buy a Trane you should not have these problems. The testing and quality control seems to be non-existent. I had a tossup between Trane and Carrier and I went with Trane because my old unit was a 20 + year old 4 ton trane heat pump and the Trane guy did a better presentation. Now I'm going to forever wonder if I did the right thing for my family by going with Trane. Right now I think I would have been better off with Carrier. At least I feel better by writing this and maybe give somebody some information to help make an informed decision about the purchase of a ac/heat pump system for the home.

"I love my heat pump it keeps me warm"
I have owned my heat pump for about 2 years now. I love it. What I love about it is that you cannot tell if it is on or not. I love the energy savings my bill dropped 30 percent. It keeps my family and I warm. It works great in the cold and i have never needed a repair for it. What I dislike about is nothing. Trane is a wonderful company I trust them. Nope I never had a repair. But I the old heat pump replaced do to leaks and various other problems. Yes absolutely I would recommend this brand because it was recommended to me by a worker at the store and i trusted them because they have one themselves and had no problems is what he said. So I took the chance and I love it and i would buy from them again. Thanks Trane.

"My heat pump works very well."
My Trane heat pump works very well in San Antonio. I have the unit maintained yearly. I will most likely buy another Trane heat pump in the future. I will most likely purchase a higher efficiency heat pump in the future. Heating and cooling is the largest part of my energy bills so efficiency is very important to me. I have owned other types of heating and cooling systems such evaporative air and air conditioning, but I most likely will stick with heat pumps. My maintenance provider says that my unit will last another four to seven years with routine maintenance. The heat pump does a good job of both heating in the winter and cooling during the summer. My heat is all electric and does not use any natural gas.

"Very satisfied with my Trane"
I have owned my heat pump for 3 years since i moved into my new house. The previous owner had installed the heat pump a month before we bought the house. I like that i have had no issues with it and that my energy bill is low. The heat pump always keeps my house nice and cool in the summer and nice and warm in the winter. I have only had to have the preventative maintenance on it. I honestly can't complain about a thing. Never had to repair anything.I would buy and recommend a Trane again.

I own a Trane XB14 heat pump. I have own it for about three years now. I completely love it! It does and excellent job at heating my entire house even in the coldest weather. I have actually seen my utility bill go down from the usual high bills that I use to get in the middle of winter. Of course a lower utility bill makes everyone happy. I have not had a single problem with my Trane xb14 heat pump since the day I bought it. I do have a reputable company come out every year and check it out to be sure everything is working properly, but they have never found anything wrong with it. I highly recommend purchasing the XB14 heat pump. I have even recommended it to my family and friends that they should change heat pumps, even though there is nothing currently wrong with theirs.
